Mariano Alonso Alonso was a Spanish military officer. He was born in Madrid, Spain, on October 11, 1899. He passed away on July 3, 1974. He served as a governor in different Spanish colonies. He was also a top military leader in the Balearic Islands during the time of Franco's government.

Biography
Early Military Career
Mariano Alonso Alonso began his military career in 1914. He joined the Toledo Infantry Academy. In 1917, he graduated and became a lieutenant.
In November 1920, he was assigned to the local police in the Spanish protectorate in Morocco. He worked there until 1924, when he was promoted to captain. During these years, he learned to speak Arabic.
From 1930 to 1934, he studied at a special military school. After graduating, he worked with the Khalifian Forces.
Role in the Spanish Civil War
In July 1936, a military uprising began in Spain. Mariano Alonso Alonso was in Tétouan at the time. He then moved to Ifni and joined the Nationalist side in the Spanish Civil War.
He was promoted quickly during the war. In May 1937, he became a commander. Just two months later, in July 1937, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. He played an important role in the Battle of Brunete.
Governor and General
After the Civil War ended, Alonso was appointed as a delegate for Indigenous Affairs until January 1942. He then became the Governor of Spanish Guinea. He served in Santa Isabel until 1944.
He continued to rise in rank. He was promoted to colonel and became a professor at the General Military Academy. In September 1952, he became a brigadier general. In November 1956, he was promoted to major general.
In July 1958, he was appointed Governor of Spanish Sahara. He left this position in El Aaiún in October 1961. At that time, he was promoted to lieutenant general. He was also appointed Captain General of the Balearic Islands.
He left the Balearic Islands in January 1963. He then became Captain General of the V Military Region, which covered Aragon. In October 1964, he took over as Captain General of the I Military Region, which included Madrid. He held this post until he retired in October 1965. After retiring, he served as a councilor for the Spanish Council of State, representing the Spanish Army.
