History of Marienthal
How Marienthal Was Founded
Marienthal was started in 1892 by a group of Volga Germans who had moved from Russia. They named the new community "Marienthal" after their old hometown in Russia. That town was also called Marienthal (Tonkoschurovka). It was located near the Volga River.
Post Office and Local Businesses
A post office opened in Marienthal on March 18, 1902. However, the USPS stopped mail service there in 2011. The post office officially closed its doors in 2017.
Today, Marienthal is home to around 100 people. It has a Catholic Church, a flour mill, a trucking company, a local bar, and a grain elevator.
