Mario's Game Gallery is a fun collection of classic games starring Mario. It was first released in 1995 for computers like DOS, Windows, and Macintosh. Later, it was re-released with a new name: Mario's FUNdamentals.
In this game, you get to play five popular games against Mario himself! These games are checkers, backgammon, Go Fish, dominoes, and "yacht" (which is like Yahtzee). Even though they are classic games, they have cool themes from the Mario universe.
When the game came out, people had different opinions about it. Some newspapers, like The State and the Los Angeles Times, thought it was a good game for learning. Official Nintendo Magazine even said it was one of the rarest Mario games you could find!
Playing the Game with Mario
Mario's Game Gallery lets you play five different games. You can challenge Mario in:
- Checkers
- Go Fish
- Dominoes
- Backgammon
- "Yacht" (a dice game similar to Yahtzee)
Each game works just like its real-life version. But here's the cool part: all the game pieces and backgrounds have a fun Mario style!
This game is also special because it was the first time Charles Martinet voiced Mario. He became the official voice of Mario and continued to voice him in many video games until 2023.
How the Game Was Made
Mario's Game Gallery was published by Interplay Entertainment Corp. and created by Presage Software, Inc. It first came out in 1995 for personal computers.
Later, the game was re-released as Mario's FUNdamentals. For this new version, Mindscape published the PC version, and Stepping Stone published the Macintosh version. Another company, Brainstorm Entertainment, also helped develop the re-release. Mario's FUNdamentals came out for Macintosh in 1996 and for PC in January 1997.
