Marion Hobby was born on November 7, 1966. He is an American football coach. He recently coached the defensive line for the Cincinnati Bengals. This team is part of the National Football League (NFL).

Playing Football in College and the NFL

Marion Hobby played college football at the University of Tennessee. His coach there was Johnny Majors. He was a starting player for three years. In 1989, he was chosen for the First-team All-SEC. This means he was one of the best players in his college league. He was also honored on Tennessee's 100th anniversary team.

In 1990, the Minnesota Vikings picked him in the NFL draft. He was the 74th player chosen overall. The Vikings then traded him to the New England Patriots. He played for the Patriots for three seasons.

Marion Hobby's Coaching Journey

Hobby started his coaching career in 1995. He worked at the University of Tennessee-Martin. His first job was as a strength and conditioning coach. This means he helped players get stronger and fitter.

Over the next few years, he coached at other colleges. He worked with teams like Louisiana-Lafayette and Tennessee. From 1999 to 2004, he spent five seasons coaching the defensive line for Ole Miss.

Coaching in the NFL and Winning a Championship

In 2005, Hobby coached the defensive ends for the Clemson Tigers. After that, he spent two seasons with the New Orleans Saints. He coached the same position there.

He then became an assistant head coach at Duke. He also coached the defensive line and was the defensive coordinator for three seasons. His head coach at Duke was David Cutcliffe.

Hobby returned to Clemson in 2011. He worked as a co-defensive coordinator and defensive ends coach. He stayed there until 2016. During this time, he helped the team win a national championship in 2016. This was a huge achievement for the team.

In January 2017, the Jacksonville Jaguars hired Marion Hobby. He became their defensive line coach. On February 8, 2019, the Miami Dolphins announced he would be their defensive line coach. He missed some games in November 2020 due to health and safety rules. In January 2021, Hobby and the Dolphins decided to part ways.

On January 16, 2021, the Cincinnati Bengals announced that Hobby would be their defensive line coach. He coached with the Bengals until January 2025.
