Marion Hobby, born on November 7, 1966, is an American football coach. He is currently a defensive analyst at the University of Tennessee, which is his old college. Before this, he coached the defensive line for the Cincinnati Bengals in the National Football League (NFL).

Playing Football in College and the NFL
Marion Hobby played college football at the University of Tennessee. He played under head coach Johnny Majors. While at Tennessee, he was a starting player for three years. In 1989, he was chosen for the First-team All-SEC, which means he was one of the best players in his college conference. He was also honored by being named to Tennessee's 100th anniversary team.
In the 1990 NFL draft, Marion Hobby was picked by the Minnesota Vikings. He was the 74th player chosen overall in the third round. The Vikings later traded him to the New England Patriots. He played for the Patriots for three seasons.
Coaching Career Highlights
Marion Hobby began his coaching career in 1995. He started at the University of Tennessee-Martin as a strength and conditioning coach. This role helps players get stronger and fitter.
Early Coaching Roles
Over the next few years, he coached at different universities. He worked with the Louisiana-Lafayette team and then returned to the University of Tennessee. From 1999 to 2004, he spent five seasons as the defensive line coach for Ole Miss.
In 2005, Hobby coached the defensive ends for the Clemson Tigers. After that, he spent two seasons with the New Orleans Saints in the same position.
Coaching at Duke and Return to Clemson
Marion Hobby then joined Duke University. He worked there for three seasons under head coach David Cutcliffe. During his time at Duke, he was the assistant head coach, defensive coordinator, and defensive line coach.
He then made a return to Clemson. From 2011 to 2016, he was the co-defensive coordinator and defensive ends coach. He worked under head coach Dabo Swinney. In 2016, while coaching at Clemson, he helped the team win a national championship.
Coaching in the NFL
In January 2017, the Jacksonville Jaguars hired Marion Hobby as their defensive line coach. He worked with the Jaguars for two seasons.
On February 8, 2019, the Miami Dolphins announced that Hobby would be their defensive line coach. He missed some games in November 2020 due to health protocols. On January 7, 2021, the Dolphins and Hobby decided to go their separate ways.
On January 16, 2021, the Cincinnati Bengals announced that Hobby would be their defensive line coach. He coached the Bengals until January 6, 2025.
Current Role at Tennessee
On June 9, 2025, the University of Tennessee announced that Marion Hobby would join their staff. He is now a defensive analyst for the team.
Personal Life
Marion Hobby earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Tennessee in 1995. He is married to Constance, and they have three daughters named Maria, Mariah, and Camille.
