Vittoria Marisa Schiaparelli Berenson (born February 15, 1947) is an American actress and former model. She became famous in the 1960s and 1970s. Marisa appeared on the covers of well-known magazines like Vogue and Time.
She won an award for her role as Natalia Landauer in the 1972 film Cabaret. This role also earned her nominations for the Golden Globe and BAFTA Awards. Marisa has also appeared in other famous films such as Death in Venice (1971) and Barry Lyndon (1975). In 2001, she performed on Broadway for the first time in the play Design for Living.

Her Family and Early Life
Marisa Berenson was born in New York City. She is the older of two daughters. Her father, Robert Lawrence Berenson, was an American diplomat who later worked in shipping. Her mother, Maria-Luisa Yvonne "Gogo" Radha de Wendt Schiaparelli, was a well-known socialite.
Marisa's grandmother was the famous fashion designer Elsa Schiaparelli. Her younger sister, Berry Berenson, was also a model, actress, and photographer. Berry was married to the actor Anthony Perkins. Sadly, Berry passed away on September 11, 2001, in New York City.
Marisa and her sister are also related to Giovanni Schiaparelli. He was an Italian astronomer who first described what he thought were "canals" on Mars.
Becoming a Star

Marisa Berenson was discovered as a teenager by Diana Vreeland, an editor at Vogue magazine. She quickly became a top fashion model in the 1960s. She was featured on the cover of Vogue in July 1970 and Time magazine in December 1975.
Marisa was known for being at many social events and nightclubs when she was young. People even called her "The Queen of the Scene." The famous fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent called her "the girl of the Seventies."
Marisa's Acting Career
Early Film Roles
Marisa's first film roles included playing Gustav von Aschenbach's wife in the 1971 movie Death in Venice. She then played Natalia Landauer in the 1972 film Cabaret. This role was very important for her career. She received two Golden Globe nominations and a BAFTA nomination for it. She also won an award from the National Board of Review.
In 1975, she played Lady Lyndon in the film Barry Lyndon, directed by Stanley Kubrick. A film critic from The New York Times said she looked wonderful in her costumes. Marisa remembered working with Kubrick, saying he was a "perfectionist" but also had a good sense of humor. She felt that great directors need to be perfectionists to make amazing films.
Other Performances
Marisa has appeared in many other films, including the comedy S.O.B. (1981) and Clint Eastwood's White Hunter Black Heart (1990). She also acted in TV movies, such as the drama Playing for Time (1980).
In 1978, she was a guest star on an episode of The Muppet Show. In 2001, she made her first appearance on Broadway in the play Design for Living. More recently, in August 2016, she played Lady Capulet in a production of Romeo and Juliet in London.
Marisa Berenson is also the chairman of the board for Culture Project. This organization supports theater and arts.
Her Personal Life
On September 11, 2001, Marisa's sister, Berry Perkins, was tragically killed. She was on the first flight that hit the World Trade Center. Marisa was also on an airplane that day, flying from Paris to New York. Her flight was redirected to Canada, where she learned about her sister's death. Marisa has said that her "hope and tremendous faith" help her get through difficult times.
Marisa has practiced Transcendental Meditation. She once shared that a trip to India changed her life. She went to a spiritual center with the Beatles, where they meditated and lived simply. She said the most important thing she learned was Transcendental Meditation.
In the 1970s, Marisa was a vegetarian and believed in reincarnation. She later started eating meat again. Today, Marisa lives in a beautiful villa outside of Marrakesh. She can speak English, Italian, and French fluently.
Marriages
Marisa Berenson has been married twice. Her first husband was James Randall, a manufacturer. They got married in 1976 and divorced in 1978. They have one daughter, who was born in 1977 and is now a social worker.
Her second husband was Aaron Richard Golub, a lawyer. They married in 1982 and divorced in 1987.
