Marko Daňo is a professional ice hockey player from Slovakia. He was born in Austria on November 30, 1994. Marko plays as a right winger for HC Oceláři Třinec in the Czech Extraliga (ELH). He was picked by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. Marko started playing in the NHL in 2014. Before joining the NHL, he played for HC Slovan Bratislava in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL).
Marko's father, Jozef Daňo, was also a famous ice hockey player. He played for the Slovak national team in the 1994 Winter Olympics and 1998 Winter Olympics.

Marko Daňo's Hockey Journey
Early Years and Draft
Marko Daňo played in a big youth hockey tournament in Quebec in 2007. He was part of a team from Bratislava. He was seen as a top young player. The NHL Central Scouting Bureau ranked him high for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. The Columbus Blue Jackets chose him in the first round. He was the 27th player picked overall.
After being drafted, Marko went back to play for HC Slovan Bratislava in the KHL. This was for the 2013–14 season. In March 2014, the Blue Jackets signed him to a three-year contract. This was his first professional deal.
Starting in the NHL
Marko made his NHL debut on October 9, 2014. This was against the Buffalo Sabres. Two days later, on October 11, he scored his first NHL goal. He also got his first assist and point in that game. This was against the New York Rangers.
He played eight games with Columbus at the start of the 2014–15 NHL season. Then, he was sent to the Springfield Falcons. This team is the Blue Jackets' minor league affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). In February 2015, he was called back to Columbus. He played there for the rest of the season. Marko finished that NHL season with 8 goals and 13 assists. He had 21 points in 35 games.
Moving to New Teams
On June 30, 2015, Marko was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks. He was traded along with Jeremy Morin, Artem Anisimov, and Corey Tropp. In return, the Blue Jackets received Brandon Saad, Alex Broadhurst, and Michael Paliotta. Marko was a key part of this trade.
He started the 2015–16 NHL season with the Blackhawks' AHL team. This team was the Rockford IceHogs. On November 2, 2015, Marko was called up to the Blackhawks. He played his first game for Chicago that night. He played 13 games with the Blackhawks. He scored one goal and one assist.
On February 25, 2016, Marko was traded again. He went to the Winnipeg Jets. The Blackhawks also sent their first-round pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. In exchange, the Jets sent Andrew Ladd, Jay Harrison, and Matt Fraser. Marko played 21 games for the Jets. He scored 4 goals and had 8 points.
In the 2016-17 NHL season, Marko had 11 points in 38 games. He also played six games for the Manitoba Moose. This is the Jets' AHL team. The Jets re-signed Marko to a one-year contract in 2017. He signed another one-year contract with them in 2018.
Later Career and Return to Europe
Marko started the 2018–19 NHL season not playing much for the Jets. On October 14, 2018, the Jets put him on waivers. The next day, the Colorado Avalanche claimed him. He played eight games for the Avalanche. He did not score any points.
On November 22, he was put on waivers again. The next day, the Jets claimed him back. He was immediately sent to the Manitoba Moose in the AHL. He stayed in the AHL for the rest of that season. He scored 12 goals and had 30 points in 51 games for the Moose.
In June 2019, Marko became a free agent. He signed a one-year contract with the Blue Jackets again on August 8. In the 2019-20 NHL season, he spent most of his time with the Cleveland Monsters. This is the Blue Jackets' AHL team. He played three games with the Blue Jackets that season.
After that, Marko returned to Europe. He signed with his hometown club, HK Dukla Trenčín, in Slovakia. On November 6, 2020, he signed another contract with the Winnipeg Jets. This was his third time with the Jets organization. He played 13 games with the Manitoba Moose in the 2020-21 AHL season.
As a free agent, Marko returned to Europe again. He signed with HC Oceláři Třinec in the Czech Extraliga on September 6, 2021.

Marko Daňo has played for Slovakia in many international tournaments. He played in the 2012 World Junior Ice Hockey Championships for the Slovak junior team. He also played for the Slovak men's team in the 2013 IIHF World Championship and 2015 IIHF World Championship. In 2022, he won a bronze medal with Slovakia at the Winter Olympics in Beijing.

Marko Daňo was born in Eisenstadt, Austria. However, he grew up in Trenčín, Slovakia.
