Time as Minister of Economy

Martín Lousteau was the first Minister of Economy under President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner. During his time, there were some disagreements within the government. Lousteau believed that some government spending should be reduced.

A major event during his time as minister was a conflict over taxes on soybean exports. He decided to change these taxes so they would go up or down with global prices. This led to large protests by farmers across Argentina.

Lousteau was involved in talks with farmer leaders. However, he later became less involved in these discussions. There were rumors that he wanted to resign because of disagreements with other ministers. He denied these rumors at first.

However, he did resign on April 24, 2008. Carlos Rafael Fernández, who was the head of the tax agency, took his place. His time as minister was short, lasting only about four months.
