Marta Kostyuk is a professional tennis player from Ukraine. She was born on June 28, 2002. Marta is known for her strong game in both singles and doubles. She has achieved high rankings in the world of tennis. Her highest singles ranking was world No. 16. In doubles, she reached world No. 27.

Marta has won one singles title and two doubles titles on the WTA Tour. Her best performance at a major tennis tournament, called a Grand Slam, was reaching the quarterfinals of the Australian Open in 2024.

Marta Kostyuk's Early Life and Family

Marta Kostyuk grew up in Kyiv, Ukraine. Her family has a strong connection to tennis. Her father, Oleh Kostyuk, was involved in a junior tennis tournament. Her mother, Talina Beiko, was also a professional tennis player. She even won a tournament in Kyiv.

Marta started playing tennis very young, at age five. Her mother was her first coach. Marta said she wanted to play tennis to spend more time with her mom. Her uncle, Taras Beiko, who played for Ukraine, also coached her. In 2023, Marta got married to Hryhoriy.

Starting Strong: Junior Years (2015–2017)

Marta showed great talent from a young age. In 2015, she won a big junior tournament in Florida called the Junior Orange Bowl. The next year, she won the Petits As tournament in France. She won both singles and doubles there.

In 2017, Marta won the girls' singles title at the Australian Open. She became the youngest Ukrainian to win a professional singles title. Later that year, she won the girls' doubles title at the US Open. She also won the ITF Junior Masters, a top junior tournament. By October 2017, she was ranked world No. 2 among junior players.

Grand Slam Debut and First Steps (2018–2019)

Marta made her first appearance in a major tournament at the Australian Open in 2018. She was the first player born in 2002 to play in a Grand Slam main draw. She won her first two matches. This made her the youngest player since 1997 to reach the third round of a major event. She lost to her fellow Ukrainian player, Elina Svitolina, in that round.

In 2018, she won a $60k tournament in Australia. In 2019, she won two more smaller titles. She also reached the quarterfinals of a WTA Tour event in Strasbourg.

Breaking Through: US Open Success (2020)

In 2020, Marta won a $60k tournament in Cairo, Egypt, in both singles and doubles. After the break in tennis due to the COVID-19 pandemic, she played well at the US Open.

At the US Open, she beat two strong players in the first two rounds. In the third round, she played against former champion Naomi Osaka. Marta won the second set in a tie-breaker. But she was eventually beaten by Osaka in a tough three-set match.

Climbing the Ranks: Top 50 (2021)

Marta continued to improve in 2021. At the WTA 500 Abu Dhabi Open, she reached the semifinals. This was a big achievement for her.

At the French Open, she defeated a former champion, Garbiñe Muguruza, in the first round. She reached the fourth round, which was her best Grand Slam result at that time. She lost to the defending champion, Iga Świątek. By November 2021, Marta entered the top 50 players in the world.

Steady Progress (2022)

Marta reached the third round of the Australian Open in 2022. She also won a doubles title with her partner Tereza Martincová at a tournament in Slovenia.

First WTA Title and Major Doubles Semifinal (2023)

In 2023, Marta had a great start. At the Australian Open, she reached the third round in singles. In doubles, she made it to the semifinals with her partner Elena-Gabriela Ruse.

She reached her first WTA Tour final at the ATX Open in Austin, Texas. She won the title, defeating Varvara Gracheva. This was her first singles title on the WTA Tour. After this win, she moved into the top 40 in the singles rankings. At times, she chose not to shake hands with her opponents after matches.

Later in 2023, she won another doubles title at the Birmingham Classic with Barbora Krejčíková. At Wimbledon, she reached the third round and earned her first win against a top 10 player, Maria Sakkari.

Reaching New Heights: Major Quarterfinal and Top 20 (2024)

The year 2024 started strong for Marta. At the Australian Open, she reached the quarterfinals for the first time in a Grand Slam singles event. This was a record for Ukrainian women in the Open era. As a result, she entered the top 30 world rankings.

At the San Diego Open, she reached her first WTA 500 final. She also had her first win against a top-5 player, Jessica Pegula. At Indian Wells, she reached the semifinals of a WTA 1000 event for the first time. She then reached a new career-high ranking of No. 26.

At the Stuttgart Grand Prix, she had an amazing run. She defeated the world No. 3, Coco Gauff, which was her first win against a top-3 player. She reached her second WTA 500 final there. She lost the final to Elena Rybakina. After this, she reached the top 20 in the singles rankings.

At the French Open, she reached the semifinals in doubles with Elena-Gabriela Ruse. Marta also represented Ukraine at the Paris Olympics in doubles.
