Her Amazing Career
Opening Restaurants
Mary Sue Milliken worked with her friend and fellow chef, Susan Feniger, for many years. They started in Chicago and even cooked in Paris. Later, they moved to Los Angeles.
In 1981, they opened their first restaurant, City Café. It was a big success! They soon moved it to a larger spot and called it CITY Restaurant.
In 1985, they opened a new Mexican restaurant called Border Grill. It was in the old City Café spot. Later, Border Grill moved to Santa Monica. It even opened in Las Vegas at the Mandalay Bay Resort.
In 1998, Mary Sue and Susan opened another restaurant called Ciudad in Los Angeles. Many people say these two chefs completely changed the food scene in Los Angeles!
Cookbooks and TV Shows

Mary Sue Milliken has written five cookbooks with Susan Feniger and others. These books share their amazing recipes. Some of their cookbooks include Mesa Mexicana and Cooking with Too Hot Tamales.
She is also a well-known TV star! Mary Sue and Susan starred in 396 episodes of Too Hot Tamales and Tamales World Tour. These shows were on the Food Network in the 1990s.
Before that, in 1993, they appeared with the famous chef Julia Child. This was for her PBS show, Cooking With Master Chefs. Mary Sue and Susan even helped prepare the food for the 2001 movie, Tortilla Soup.
In 2011, Mary Sue appeared on the TV show Top Chef Masters. She was the first runner-up! She won $40,000 for her charity, Share Our Strength. This charity helps fight hunger.
Awards and Recognition
In 2018, Mary Sue Milliken received the Julia Child Award. She shared this award with Susan Feniger. It is a very special award for chefs who have made a big impact on the food world.
