Masashi Oguro (大黒 将志, Ōguro Masashi, born 4 May 1980) is a famous Japanese former professional footballer. He played as a forward, which means his main job was to score goals. He played for many clubs in Japan, France, Italy, and China. He also proudly represented the Japan national team in 22 matches, scoring 5 goals between 2005 and 2008. After retiring as a player, he became a youth coach for Gamba Osaka.

Masashi Oguro was born on May 4, 1980. He grew up loving football and joined the youth team of Gamba Osaka when he was 13. He spent six years learning and improving his skills there before becoming a professional player.
Playing for Clubs
Masashi Oguro had a long and exciting career playing for many different football clubs. He played in Japan, France, Italy, and China.
Early Days and Gamba Osaka
Oguro started his professional career in 1999 with Gamba Osaka in the J1 League, which is Japan's top football league. In 2001, he was loaned to Consadole Sapporo. A loan means he played for another team for a short time before returning to his original club.
When he returned to Gamba Osaka, he played very well. In 2004, he scored the second-highest number of goals in the J1 League. He was also the top Japanese goal-scorer that year. His name, Oguro, sounds like "Daikokuten" in Japanese, which is the name of a god of wealth. Because of this, fans sometimes called him "Daikokuten." In 2005, he helped Gamba Osaka win the J1 League championship.
Playing in Europe
In December 2005, Oguro moved to France to play for Grenoble. This team was in Ligue 2, which is the second-highest league in France. He played in 17 matches there.
In August 2006, he moved again, this time to Italy. He joined Torino, a club in Italy's top league, Serie A. He played 10 matches for Torino before returning to Japan.
Back to Japan and China
In June 2008, Oguro came back to Japan and joined Tokyo Verdy in the J1 League. The team was later moved down to the J2 League (the second division). In 2009, he scored 21 goals in the J2 League, showing his great scoring ability.
He continued to play for various Japanese clubs, including Yokohama FC, FC Tokyo, and Yokohama F. Marinos. In 2013, he played for Hangzhou Greentown in the Chinese Super League in China. He then returned to Japan to play for Kyoto Sanga FC, Montedio Yamagata, and Tochigi SC. He retired from playing professionally in 2020.
Playing for Japan
Masashi Oguro also had a successful career playing for the Japan national team. He was chosen to play for Japan in 2005 for the 2006 World Cup qualifying games.
In one important game on February 9, 2005, he scored a goal in the final moments of the match. This goal helped Japan win 2–0 against North Korea and qualify for the World Cup. In May 2006, he was selected to play for Japan in the 2006 World Cup in Germany. He played a total of 22 games for Japan and scored 5 goals.
