Mastrils is a small, former municipality in Switzerland. It's located in the canton of Graubünden. This area is in the eastern part of Switzerland.
On January 1, 2012, Mastrils joined with the nearby municipality of Igis. Together, they formed a new, larger municipality called Landquart.
History of Mastrils
Mastrils has a long history. It was first mentioned in old records way back in 1318. At that time, it was called Ponstrils.
Later, in 1345, its name was written as Bastrils. In 1854, Mastrils became its own independent municipality. Before that, it was part of Zizers.
Geography of Mastrils
Mastrils covers an area of about 8 square kilometers (about 3 square miles). A large part of this land is covered by forests, about 68.8%.
About 23.9% of the land is used for farming. This means people grow crops or raise animals there. Only a small part, 2.5%, has buildings or roads. The rest of the land, about 4.9%, includes rivers or mountains. This land is not used for farming or building.
Mastrils is spread out in the foothills of the Calanda mountains. It includes several smaller settlements. These are Isla, Tardisbrücke, and Trätsch.
