Matchmakers are a popular brand of thin chocolate sticks. They are known for being long, slender, and easy to snap. These tasty treats are currently made by Nestlé, a well-known food company.
Matchmakers were first created in 1968 by a company called Rowntree's. When they first came out, they were much shorter, about the length of a matchstick. This is how they got their name!

The History of Matchmakers Flavors
Matchmakers have had many different flavors over the years.
Early Flavors and Changes
For a long time, you could find Matchmakers in classic flavors like orange, mint, lemon, and coffee. In 2003, Nestlé decided to update the brand. They changed the names of some flavors to Cool Mint and Zingy Orange. They also added new flavors like Brilliant Blackcurrant and Sizzling Strawberry. The packaging was updated too, to look more modern.
Special Editions and New Ideas
Over the years, many special flavors have been made for a short time. These included flavors like Brandysnap, Cappuccino, Coconut, Christmas Orange Spice, Nutty, and Irish Cream. However, these special flavors are not available anymore. The Brilliant Blackcurrant and Sizzling Strawberry flavors were also stopped.
Matchmakers Join Quality Street
In 2008, Nestlé decided to link Matchmakers with another one of their popular brands, Quality Street. So, Matchmakers became known as 'Quality Street Matchmakers'. Today, you can still find them in 'Zingy Orange', 'Cool Mint', and 'Yummy Honeycomb' flavors.
Recent Flavor Adventures
Before Matchmakers turned 50 in 2018, a new limited edition 'Salted Caramel' flavor was released. For their 50th anniversary in October 2018, a 'Gingerbread' flavor was introduced for a limited time. In September 2019, another special flavor called 'Maple & Pecan' appeared in a sky blue box.
By 2022, the 'Salted Caramel', 'Gingerbread', and 'Maple & Pecan' flavors were no longer available. However, 'Yummy Honeycomb' and 'Coffee' flavors returned. The 'Coffee' flavor was even combined with 'Salted Caramel' to create a new Caramel Coffee flavor. The 'Honeycomb' flavor also got a simpler name.
