Matthew Thomas Fitzpatrick (born 1 September 1994) is a professional golfer from England. He is known for his amazing skills on the golf course. In 2013, he won the U.S. Amateur tournament. Later, in 2015, he won his first professional golf event, the British Masters.
His biggest win came in 2022 when he won his first major championship. This was the U.S. Open, one of the most important golf tournaments in the world. In 2023, he also won the RBC Heritage, which was his second big win on the PGA Tour.

Early Life and Family
Matt Fitzpatrick was born in Sheffield, England. He went to Tapton School there. Matt loves football and has always supported his local team, Sheffield United.
He has a younger brother named Alex Fitzpatrick. Alex also plays golf and turned professional in 2022. He played college golf in the United States.
Amateur Golf Career
Before becoming a professional, Matt had a very successful amateur career. In 2012, he won the Boys Amateur Championship. The next year, he played in The Open Championship, a major golf tournament. He was the best amateur player there and won The Silver Medal.
Later in 2013, Matt won the U.S. Amateur tournament. This was a huge win because it gave him special invitations. He was invited to play in three major tournaments: the Masters, the U.S. Open, and the Open Championship. Winning the U.S. Amateur also made him the top amateur golfer in the world. He received the Mark H. McCormack Medal for this achievement.
In September 2013, Matt started college at Northwestern University to play golf. However, he left after just one term. He decided to focus on his amateur golf career full-time.
Becoming a Professional Golfer
Matt Fitzpatrick became a professional golfer after the U.S. Open in 2014. This meant he could now earn money from playing golf. His first professional tournament was the Irish Open.
In November 2014, he played in the European Tour Qualifying School. He finished well enough to join the 2015 European Tour for the next season.
First Professional Wins
Matt had a great first year on the European Tour in 2015. He finished third at the Lyoness Open. Soon after, he came in second place at the Omega European Masters.
His first professional victory happened in October 2015. He won the British Masters at Woburn. This win helped him get into the top 100 golfers in the world.
In April 2016, Matt played in the 2016 Masters Tournament. He finished tied for 7th place, which was a great result. In June, he won the 2016 Nordea Masters. These good results helped him get picked for the 2016 Ryder Cup team.
In November 2016, Matt won the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai. This was his third professional win. He continued to win more tournaments, including the Omega European Masters twice in 2017 and 2018. In December 2020, he won the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai again.
Major Championship Victory in 2022
In September 2021, Matt played for the European team in the 2021 Ryder Cup. This is a big team competition in golf.
The biggest moment of his career so far came in June 2022. He won his first major championship, the U.S. Open. He won by just one shot at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts. This was the same course where he won the U.S. Amateur in 2013. He is only the second male golfer ever to win both the U.S. Open and the U.S. Amateur at the same place.
Recent Successes (2023-2024)
In April 2023, Matt won the RBC Heritage tournament. He won in a playoff against Jordan Spieth. A playoff happens when players are tied at the end of a tournament.
In September 2023, Matt played for the European team again in the 2023 Ryder Cup in Italy. The European team won this time! In October 2023, he won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. He also won the pro-am part of that event with his mother, Susan, as his partner.
Personal Life
Matt Fitzpatrick was featured in a sports documentary series called Full Swing. It came out on Netflix in February 2023.
