In his first full year with St. George, he scored 8 goals in 27 games. This helped his team finish second in the league. He became a regular player, playing 25 more games in 1989–90 and 12 in 1990–91.

Playing for Marconi Stallions

After St. George, Bingley joined the Marconi Stallions. In his first season with Marconi, he played 24 games and scored two goals. His team finished second in the league. They then won the championship by beating West Adelaide 1–0 in the Grand Final.

Matthew became a key player for the Stallions. He played 117 league games for the club until the 1996–97 season. He scored 19 goals during this time. Marconi almost always made it to the finals. In 1995–96, they finished first in the league. However, they lost to the Melbourne Knights in the Grand Final.

Adventures in Japan
