Wilbur Maurice Harris (born February 21, 1976), also known as "Sugar Moe", is a famous American boxer. He used to be the champion of the United States Boxing Association (USBA) in the heavyweight division.

Maurice Harris has won many important fights against other well-known boxers. Some of his big wins were against Siarhei Liakhovich, David Izon, James Thunder, and Jeremy Williams. He also faced many world champions and top contenders during his career.

Maurice Harris's Boxing Journey

Maurice Harris started his professional boxing career when he was just 16 years old in 1992. He began as a light heavyweight boxer. In his early years, he fought against many rising stars and experienced champions.

Early Fights and Challenges

When he was starting out, Maurice had some tough matches. He lost to Vaughn Bean, who later became a top contender. But he also had a big win against David Izon, who had an impressive record of 18 wins and no losses at the time.

On May 12, 2001, Maurice tried to win the USBA heavyweight title for the first time. He fought Chris Byrd, who later became a world heavyweight champion. Maurice lost that fight after 12 rounds.

In 1997, Maurice had a close fight with former champion Larry Holmes. The judges' decision was split, meaning it was a very close match. After that, Maurice went on a winning streak, winning seven fights in a row between 1998 and 1999. During this time, he beat Jeremy Williams, who was a top heavyweight contender.

One of his most memorable fights was against Derrick Jefferson in 1999. This fight was shown on HBO. Maurice was knocked out in that match, and it was even called the "Ring Magazine knockout of the year" because of how powerful the punch was.

Training with a Champion

Maurice Harris also worked as the main sparring partner for the heavyweight world champion Lennox Lewis starting in 1998. He continued in this important role for several years, helping Lewis prepare for his big fights.

Big Wins and Tournament Success

In 2002, Maurice had another impressive victory. He knocked out Siarhei Liakhovich in the 9th round. Liakhovich was undefeated at the time with 19 wins.

Later that same year, Maurice won the "Thunderbox Heavyweight Tournament" in Atlantic City, New Jersey. This was a special event where eight heavyweights fought short, three-round matches. Maurice won three fights in one night, beating Gerald Nobles, Tony Thompson, and Israel Garcia, to win the $100,000 prize!

Maurice's Comeback

After taking a break from boxing for three years, Maurice Harris returned to the ring in 2010 as a heavyweight. He was determined to make a comeback.

In his second chance, Maurice won the vacant USBA heavyweight title. He beat Nagy Aguilera in a 12-round fight in Minnesota. This was a big achievement for him.

On July 16, 2011, Maurice successfully defended his USBA heavyweight title in Atlantic City, New Jersey. He won by knocking out Derric Rossy in the 12th round.
