Mauro's Journey to Becoming a Top Chef
After finishing his chef training, Mauro Colagreco moved to France. He worked with several well-known chefs. One of his first jobs was with Bernard Loiseau. Later, he worked with Alain Passard and Alain Ducasse in Paris. He also spent a year at a famous restaurant called Le Grand Véfour.
In 2006, Mauro Colagreco opened his own restaurant, Mirazur, in Menton, France. Just six months after opening, he received a special award called ‘Revelation of the Year’ from Gault&Millau. This award recognized his amazing talent. In less than a year, Mirazur earned its first Michelin star. Six years later, it received a second Michelin star.
Mirazur became one of the best restaurants in the world. It was listed in The S.Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurants. In the same year, Mauro Colagreco was named “Chef of the Year” by the Gault & Millau guide. He was the first non-French chef to receive this important title.
In January 2019, Mirazur earned its third Michelin star. This is the highest award a restaurant can get. In June 2019, Mirazur was chosen as the best restaurant in the world by The World's 50 Best Restaurants.
Mauro Colagreco has a unique cooking style. He loves to combine different ingredients and flavors in new ways. In 2022, he became the very first chef to be named a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for biodiversity. This means he helps protect the variety of life on Earth.
