Maxim Katz is a well-known person from Russia. He is involved in politics, helps make cities better, and plans election campaigns. He also has a popular YouTube channel where he talks about daily news.
He became famous in 2011 when he won a local election in Moscow. From 2012 to 2016, he worked as a representative for a part of Moscow called Shchukino. In 2012, he was chosen to be part of a group that worked against the government, staying there until 2013.
Maxim is known for helping people run for elections. He helped organize campaigns for several important figures. In 2012, he started an organization called the City Projects Foundation with Ilya Varlamov. This group helps make cities better places to live.

About Maxim Katz
Maxim Katz was born in Moscow, Russia, in 1984. When he was nine years old, in 1993, he moved to Israel with his family. He later returned to Russia in 2001.
Before getting involved in politics, Maxim was a professional poker player. In 2007, he became the first and only Russian champion in sports poker.
In 2016, Maxim received a special scholarship from the UK government. This scholarship helped him study at the University of Glasgow in Scotland. He earned a master's degree in "Public and Urban Policy" in 2017. Later, in 2023, he also earned a master's degree from Tel Aviv University.
Working for Cities
Maxim Katz became interested in making cities better after traveling and seeing how other cities were designed. In 2011, he studied at a famous urban design firm.
In 2012, he teamed up with Ilya Varlamov to create the City Projects Foundation. This group works to improve cities using modern ideas about urban planning.
By 2020, the foundation had opened many local offices across Russia. These offices helped gather more than ten thousand supporters. Within a year, they had offices in 100 cities and over 20,000 supporters.
The foundation's work was paused in March 2022. By then, they had more than 30,000 supporters.
Helping in Elections
Maxim Katz has helped with many election campaigns for people who wanted to bring change. He often worked as a campaign manager.
- 2012: He managed Ilya Varlamov's campaign for mayor in Omsk. The campaign got a lot of attention.
- 2013: He was a deputy campaign manager for Alexei Navalny's mayoral campaign in Moscow. This campaign got a lot of public support and helped Navalny become a leading figure.
- 2014: Maxim ran for the Moscow City Duma, which is like a local parliament. He received 23% of the votes.
- 2016: He managed Dmitry Gudkov's campaign for the State Duma. This campaign won an award for using digital tools in new ways.
- 2017: Maxim helped start the United Democrats project. This project supported independent candidates in Moscow's local elections. It helped 267 candidates get elected.
- 2019: He managed Darya Besedina's successful campaign for the Moscow City Duma. She became one of the few opposition candidates to win a seat.
- 2019: He also led the Yabloko party's campaign for local seats in Saint Petersburg. As a result, 99 people were elected.
- 2020: The City Projects Foundation supported 63 candidates who wanted to improve cities. Seven of these candidates won their elections.
- 2021: Maxim managed Anastasia Bryukhanova's campaign for the State Duma. Her campaign raised a lot of money from supporters.
YouTube Channel
Maxim Katz is the creator and host of his own YouTube channel. He posts daily videos about current events and politics. He often explains things and corrects false information.
Before early 2022, his videos usually got 300,000 to 400,000 views each day. After that, the number of views increased to 1 to 2 million. Maxim says this is because he covers events clearly and honestly.
His channel has grown a lot. From March 2020 to August 2024, it went from 13,800 followers to 2,300,000 followers. The videos on his channel have been watched over 1.1 billion times.
Awards
In March 2021, Maxim Katz received the Global Belarusian Solidarity Award. He won in the "View from the outside" category. This award came from the center for Belarusian Solidarity.
