Maxwell Creek is a small waterway, often called a stream, located in the area of Georgian Bluffs in Grey County, Ontario, Canada. It flows through a part of Ontario known as Southwestern Ontario. This creek is an important part of the Great Lakes Basin, which means its water eventually flows into the Great Lakes. It is also a "right tributary" of the Pottawatomi River, meaning it joins the Pottawatomi River from the right side as you look downstream.
Where Maxwell Creek Starts and Ends
Maxwell Creek begins where two smaller, unnamed streams meet. This starting point is about 256 metres (840 ft) (or 840 feet) above sea level. It is located southeast of a small community called Squire.
The Creek's Journey
From its beginning, Maxwell Creek flows generally north. Along its path, it drops down over the Niagara Escarpment. The Niagara Escarpment is a long cliff or ridge of rock that stretches across parts of North America. The creek also passes underneath Ontario Highway 21, a major road in the region.
Meeting the Pottawatomi River
Maxwell Creek finishes its journey when it flows into the Pottawatomi River. This meeting point is about 207 metres (679 ft) (or 679 feet) above sea level. It is located west of the city of Owen Sound and east of the community of Springmount. The Pottawatomi River then continues its flow until it reaches Georgian Bay, which is a large bay on Lake Huron. Lake Huron is one of the five Great Lakes.
