Mayer (pronounced "MAY-er") is a small city in Carver County, Minnesota, United States. It is located along the South Fork of the Crow River. In 2020, about 2,453 people lived there.

Mayer's History
The area where Mayer is now located first had a post office in 1875. Back then, it was called Helvetia. In 1888, the name was changed to Mayer. Railroad officials were the ones who gave the town its new name.

Mayer covers a total area of about 1.42 square miles (3.63 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 1.39 square miles (3.56 square kilometers), is land. A small part, about 0.03 square miles (0.07 square kilometers), is water.
Minnesota State Highway 25 is a main road that goes through Mayer. Another important road, State Highway 7, also passes very close to the city.

Mayer's Population in 2010
In 2010, there were 1,749 people living in Mayer. These people made up 589 households and 471 families. The city had about 1,258 people per square mile. Most of the people living in Mayer were White (95.2%).

Mayer Blazers: A Local Sports Team
Mayer is known as the home of the Mayer Blazers baseball team. Baseball has been played in Mayer for almost 100 years. The community has always strongly supported the team.
In 1906, the village council agreed to rent land for playing ball. This showed how much they supported the game even back then.
The Mayer Baseball Club officially started in the early 1930s. In 1934, the city bought land for a baseball field. The Mayer Baseball team began playing in a league in 1935.
Since 1943, the Mayer Blazers have played in the state tournament seven times. In 1945, they finished second in the Class A state tournament. Their best performance was in 1973, when they came in third place.
In 1976, a man named Clarence Guetzkow was added to the Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame. This was to honor his hard work and dedication to Mayer Baseball and other local baseball leagues.
