Maylands is a friendly suburb in Adelaide, Australia. It's part of the City of Norwood Payneham St Peters area. You can find it between two main roads, Portrush Road and Magill Road.
A Look Back at Maylands
Maylands got its name from two early settlers, William Wadham and Luke M Cullen. They sold the land that became the original town in 1876. The name might have come from a place called Mayland in Essex, England. This is where the Cooper family, related to William Wadham, came from.
Most of the homes in Maylands are medium-sized houses. Many of them were built a long time ago, in the late 1800s and early 1900s. You can see different styles of old Australian architecture here. These include colonial, Federation, and even some art deco designs. The houses are usually larger than those in nearby Stepney. Some even had small market gardens attached to them.
