Mays Landing is a community located in Hamilton Township, Atlantic County, New Jersey. It is considered a "census-designated place" (CDP), which means it's a special area defined by the U.S. Census Bureau for collecting population data.
In 2020, about 5,603 people lived in Mays Landing. It is the main government center, or county seat, for Atlantic County. This county is part of the South Jersey region.

History of Mays Landing
Mays Landing got its name from Captain George May. He explored the Great Egg Harbor River in 1740. Later, in 1756, he bought land in this area.
The location was perfect for building ships. They used local wood and iron from nearby factories. In February 1837, Atlantic County was created. Mays Landing was chosen as its county seat. The Atlantic County Courthouse was built here in 1838.

The Mays Landing Historic District is a special area. It covers 147 acres and includes East and West Main streets. This district was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1990. It's important for its architecture, town planning, and history.
The district has 259 buildings that help tell its story. Some famous buildings include the Mays Landing Presbyterian Church and the Samuel Richards Hotel. These were already listed as historic places. The Abbott House shows off a style called Second Empire. The Champion House has Italianate architecture with Doric columns.
Geography and Climate
Mays Landing covers about 5.94 square miles (15.38 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water.
The community is located about 20 miles (32 km) west of Atlantic City. Other nearby communities include Mizpah and McKee City.

Specialized Education
The Atlantic County Institute of Technology (ACIT) is also in Mays Landing. It opened in 1974 and offers job training to high school students and adults. ACIT was recognized as a "Blue Ribbon School" in 2008. This is a special award from the United States Department of Education.
Catholic School
Saint Vincent de Paul Regional School is a Catholic elementary school. It has been teaching students from pre-kindergarten to eighth grade since 1961. It is part of the Diocese of Camden.
College Education
Atlantic Cape Community College is located in Mays Landing. It was one of the first community colleges in New Jersey. It moved to its current campus in 1968. Students from Atlantic County and Cape May County attend this college.
Transportation
NJ Transit provides bus services for Mays Landing. You can take a bus to Philadelphia on route 315. There is also a bus to Atlantic City on route 553.
