Mazanderani (also called Mäzeruni in its own language) is an old Iranian language. It is spoken by about 3 to 4 million people in northern Iran. You can hear it in places like the Mazandaran area, western Golestan, northern Tehran and Semnan, and northeastern Qazvin.
How Mazanderani is Written
Long ago, in the early days of Islam, Mazanderani was written using the Pahlavi alphabet. Today, people write Mazanderani using the Persian alphabet.

The Mazanderani language has some of the oldest written works among local languages in Iran. Some important books written in this language include:
