The Story of McComb

McComb was first started in 1847. It was known as Pleasantville back then. In 1858, its name was changed to McComb.

The village is named after Alexander Macomb. He was an important general in the United States Army. He was the second person to hold the title of Commanding General of the United States Army. Even though his name was spelled "Macomb," the village uses "McComb." This is because a Scotsman who fought with General Macomb named the village. He used the Scottish way of saying and spelling the name.

Two brave soldiers, William Bensinger and John Reed Porter, are buried in McComb. They were among the first soldiers in American history to receive the Medal of Honor. This is a very special award for military bravery. They earned it for their part in an event called the Great Locomotive Chase.
