Discover McDowell Peak

McDowell Peak is part of the stunning McDowell Mountains in Arizona. It's not far from the big city of Phoenix. This peak is easy to spot because it's only about half a mile north of the well-known Thompson Peak. It also shares a ridge with Drinkwater Peak, making them close mountain buddies.

Exploring the McDowell Sonoran Preserve

McDowell Peak is located inside the McDowell Sonoran Preserve in Scottsdale. This preserve is a special natural area that the city of Scottsdale takes care of. It's a place where people can enjoy nature and explore the desert.

To protect the plants and animals, and to keep visitors safe, there are rules about staying on marked trails. As of August 2016, there were no official trails that went all the way to the very top of McDowell Peak. This means that for safety and protection, people are not allowed to hike directly to the summit of the peak.
