McGee Creek is a very small community in Mono County, California, United States. It's not an official city but a "census-designated place" (CDP), which means it's a special area defined for counting people.
This community is located high up in the mountains. It sits about 7,723 feet (2,354 meters) above sea level. In 2020, only 45 people lived there, making it a very tiny place!
Where is McGee Creek?
McGee Creek is found in the southwestern part of Mono County. It's right at the eastern base of the huge Sierra Nevada mountains.
A major road, U.S. Route 395, runs along the northeast side of the community. If you travel northwest on this road, you'll reach Mammoth Lakes in about 12 miles (19 km). If you go southeast, you'll get to Bishop in about 30 miles (48 km).
The community gets its name from McGee Creek itself. This creek starts high up in the Sierra Nevada mountains, flowing from the McGee Lakes. A road called McGee Creek Road goes southwest up the creek valley. It ends about 3 miles (4.8 km) away at a hiking trail within the Inyo National Forest.
The entire area of McGee Creek is about 4.0 square miles (10.4 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no water.
