McKenzie Lake (also known as lac McKenzie in French) is a beautiful lake in Ontario, Canada. It is located in two different areas: the Nipissing District and Hastings County. The lake is part of a very large water system called the Saint Lawrence River drainage basin. This means all the water from McKenzie Lake eventually flows into the Saint Lawrence River.
The small community of McKenzie Lake is found right on the northern shore of the lake.

Where is McKenzie Lake?
McKenzie Lake is located in the area of South Algonquin and Hastings Highlands. It's about 14 kilometers (9 miles) south of a community called Madawaska. It's also about the same distance north of the small town of Maynooth.
The lake itself sits at an elevation of about 395 meters (1,296 feet) above sea level. Most of the lake is in South Algonquin, which is in the Nipissing District. However, a small part of its southwestern tip reaches into Hastings Highlands, which is in Hastings County. This means the lake crosses the traditional border between northern and central Ontario.
How Water Flows Through McKenzie Lake
The main river that flows into McKenzie Lake is called Moore Creek. This creek enters the lake from the east, bringing water from places like Cross Lake. There are also a few other smaller streams that flow into McKenzie Lake, including one from North Chainy Lake and another from Turf Lake.
The water then leaves McKenzie Lake from its northern tip, also through Moore Creek. From there, Moore Creek flows north towards Moore Lake. After that, the water continues its journey through the Madawaska River and then the Ottawa River. Finally, all this water reaches the mighty Saint Lawrence River.
Size and Shape of the Lake
McKenzie Lake is about 3.5 kilometers (2.2 miles) long. It is also about 1.1 kilometers (0.7 miles) wide.
The lake has a unique shape, looking a bit like the letter "L". The longest part of the "L" runs from the south-southwest to the north-northeast. A smaller part extends about 1.5 kilometers (0.9 miles) to the south from the western end of the lake.
Nearby Natural Areas
While McKenzie Lake itself is not part of a provincial park, the shore at its southwestern tip is. This area is part of Lake St. Peter Provincial Park. This park is a great place to enjoy nature and explore the outdoors near the lake.
