McKinley is a small, quiet place in Coos County, Oregon, United States. It's known as an unincorporated community, which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. Instead, it's part of the larger county area.

About McKinley

McKinley is located in the beautiful Southern Oregon Coast Range. This area is known for its green forests and rolling hills.

Where is McKinley?

You can find McKinley along a waterway called Middle Creek. This creek is a tributary, which means it's a smaller stream that flows into a larger river. Middle Creek joins the North Fork Coquille River. McKinley is situated northeast of a town called Myrtle Point.

How McKinley Got Its Name

The name "McKinley" was suggested by a person named Homer Shepherd. He wanted to honor William McKinley, who was the President of the United States at that time.

Homer Shepherd also played a big part in setting up the McKinley post office. This happened in June 1897. He became the very first postmaster there, which means he was in charge of the post office and making sure mail got delivered.
