McLennan is a small town located in northern Alberta, Canada. It is about 50 kilometers (31 miles) north of a town called High Prairie. You can find McLennan right on Highway 2.
This town was named after John K. McLennan. He was an important person who helped build the Edmonton, Dunvegan and British Columbia Railway. Before it was called McLennan, the area was known as Round Lake. The town sits on the southern side of Kimiwan Lake. The name "Kimiwan" comes from the Cree word for "rain." Another lake, Winagami Lake, is also nearby.
McLennan is sometimes called the Bird Capital of Canada. This is because the nearby lakes attract many different kinds of migratory birds, like shorebirds and waterfowl. These birds stop here during their long journeys. You can also visit Winagami Lake Provincial Park, which is about 29 kilometers (18 miles) southeast of McLennan.
The town is home to the Cathédrale Saint-Jean-Baptiste. This large church was built in 1947 and is dedicated to John the Baptist. It is a very important building for the Roman Catholic Church in the region.
