McSwain is a small community in Merced County, California, United States. It is known as a census-designated place (CDP). This means it is an area that the government counts for population statistics, but it is not an official city or town.
McSwain is located about 144 feet (44 meters) above sea level. In 2020, about 4,480 people lived there. This number was a bit higher than the 4,171 people counted in 2010.
Where is McSwain Located?
McSwain is in the middle part of Merced County. The city of Atwater is right next to McSwain on its northern side.
A major road, California State Route 99, runs along the northern edge of McSwain. Merced, which is the main city of the county, is about 5 miles (8 km) to the east. You can get there using California State Route 140. This same road also goes west for about 25 miles (40 km) to a town called Gustine.
The United States Census Bureau says that McSwain covers an area of about 6.0 square miles (15.6 square kilometers). All of this area is land, with no large bodies of water.
