History of Meadow Grove
Meadow Grove was officially planned and mapped out in 1886. The village got its name from a group of trees, also called a grove, that grew in a meadow near where the town was first built.
Geography and Location
Meadow Grove is found in the northwestern part of Madison County. It is mostly located on the south side of U.S. Route 275. This highway goes west about 5 miles (8 km) to Tilden. If you go east on the highway, it's about 16 miles (26 km) to Norfolk. Norfolk is the biggest city in Madison County.

The U.S. Census Bureau says that Meadow Grove covers a total area of about 0.31 square miles (0.79 square kilometers). All of this area is land. The Elkhorn River flows about 1 mile (1.6 km) north of the village.

Most of the people in the village were White (95.7%). A small number were African American (0.3%), Native American (1.3%), or from other races (1.7%). About 23.1% of households had children under 18 living with them. Nearly half (45.5%) were married couples. Some households had a female head (7.5%) or a male head (3.7%) without a spouse. About 38.1% of all households were made up of single individuals. Of these, 14.1% were people aged 65 or older living alone. The average household had 2.25 people, and the average family had 2.91 people.
The average age of people in the village was 39.8 years. About 21.9% of residents were under 18. About 6.9% were between 18 and 24 years old. People aged 25 to 44 made up 26.3% of the population. Those aged 45 to 64 were 30.2%, and 14.6% were 65 years or older. The village had slightly more males (52.2%) than females (47.8%).
