Meadowdale is a special kind of community in Snohomish County, Washington. It's called a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's an area that looks like a town, but it doesn't have its own city government.
In 2020, about 3,148 people lived in Meadowdale. It was actually the very first city to be officially formed in Snohomish County.
A post office opened in Meadowdale in 1904. It stayed open until 1938. The community got its name because there was a beautiful meadow near where the first town was built.
Where is Meadowdale Located?
Meadowdale is found along the eastern side of Possession Sound. It's surrounded by other cities. To the south, you'll find Edmonds and Lynnwood. The northern border is 148th Street Southwest. To the east, it's bordered by 52nd Avenue West.
Even though Meadowdale is its own community, everyone living there uses an Edmonds address. The total land area of Meadowdale is about 1.07 square miles.
What is Annexation?
In the early 2000s, some nearby cities wanted to make Meadowdale part of their own areas. This process is called annexation. It's when a larger city takes over a smaller, unincorporated area next to it.
Cities like Edmonds, Lynnwood, and Mukilteo have all tried to annex parts of Meadowdale. This means they wanted Meadowdale to become part of their city limits.
