Mecosta is a small village located in Mecosta County, in the U.S. state of Michigan. It's a quiet place with a friendly community. In 2020, about 386 people lived there. The village is part of Morton Township. Another place called Mecosta Township is also in Mecosta County, but it's a few miles away.

Exploring Mecosta's Location and Nature
Mecosta is right in the middle of Mecosta County, in the northeast part of Morton Township. A main road, M-20, goes through the village. This road can take you northwest about 17 miles to Big Rapids, which is the main town of the county. If you go east on M-20, you'll reach Mount Pleasant about 24 miles away.
The village covers an area of about 1.12 square miles, and all of it is land. The East Branch of the Little Muskegon River flows through the center of Mecosta. This river is part of the larger Muskegon River system, which eventually flows into Lake Michigan.

Mecosta was once home to a very important thinker named Russell Kirk. He was an American political theorist, historian, and writer. Kirk lived at a place called Piety Hill, which is now where the Russell Kirk Center for Cultural Renewal is located. This center helps keep his ideas and work alive.
