Medon is a small city in Tennessee, USA. It is located in both Madison County and Hardeman County. Medon is part of the larger Jackson metropolitan area. This means it is near the city of Jackson. In 2020, about 189 people lived in Medon.
Where is Medon?
Medon is located in western Tennessee. You can find it along State Route 18. This road connects the cities of Jackson and Bolivar. Medon is also north of Chickasaw State Park. Its exact location is 35°27′31″N 88°52′02″W / 35.458622°N 88.867284°W.
A Look at Medon's Past
Medon started as a community around the Illinois Central Railroad. This was a very important train line. By 1886, about 300 people lived here. The town was about ten miles south of Jackson.
Medon was known for its strong farming community. Farmers grew many crops in the rich soil nearby. A high school was also started in Medon in 1881. This school later became part of South Side High School in 1956.
