The Story of the Deedles
Hawaii to Yellowstone
Phil and Stu Deedle are twin brothers who live in Hawaii. They love to relax and surf, living off their dad's money. One day, they skip school to go surf. Because of this, their school kicks them out. Their dad, Elton, is tired of them being lazy. He decides to send them to a tough boot camp. This camp is located in Yellowstone National Park, which the boys are not happy about.
When they arrive, they find out the boot camp is closed. The former owner, Major Flowers, plans to train them himself. But on the way, he accidentally drives off a cliff! Phil and Stu are thrown from the car. Major Flowers thinks they are gone and runs away into the forest.
The brothers then find some clothes at a nearby campsite. They slide down a hill on a luge to the ranger station. They crash into a park sign. The park rangers think the boys are two new recruits named "Mel" and "Mo." These names were on the clothes they took.
New Identities, New Problems
Phil and Stu wake up in the hospital. They decide to pretend to be Mel and Mo. They learn that the real Mel and Mo were supposed to be expert naturalists. The brothers try their best to act like park rangers. But they struggle with the job and finding their own food.
During their time at Yellowstone, Phil starts to like Jesse. She is a Lieutenant at the station. She is also the stepdaughter of Captain Pine, the park's main ranger. Captain Pine does not like the Deedle brothers very much.
Stopping a Sneaky Plan
Later, the brothers discover a secret plan. A former park ranger named Frank Slater is behind it. He wants to change the flow of Old Faithful, a famous geyser. He plans to send its water to an old geyser on his own land. He wants to create a new park that will be even better than Yellowstone. Slater plans to do this during Old Faithful's anniversary party. He hopes to make Captain Pine look bad.
Eventually, the real Mel and Mo arrive at the ranger station. They had some problems on their way. They tell everyone that the Deedle brothers are fakes. Jesse and Captain Pine are upset. The brothers are kicked out of the park.
But Phil and Stu still want to stop Slater. They try to sneak into his secret base. They parachute onto his land and are taken underground. With help from a prairie dog they met earlier, they put on special heat suits. They stop the hot water from going to Slater’s "New Faithful" geyser. This brings Old Faithful back to normal! This also causes an explosion on Slater's land. It creates a natural wave pool where people can now surf.
Slater and his helpers are arrested for their crimes. Phil and Jesse become friends again. The brothers are allowed back into the Park Service. Their dad, Elton, arrives and is very proud of them. The brothers and Jesse then go surfing in the new wave pool.
