At one point, there were only 18 of these ferrets left in the world by 1985! Scientists worked hard to save them. They captured all the remaining ferrets. Seven of them were able to have babies, which helped bring the species back from the edge of extinction. All black-footed ferrets alive today are descended from this small group found near Meeteetse. It's an amazing story of saving a species!
