Meeuwen-Gruitrode was a town, also known as a municipality, located in Belgium. It was part of the Limburg province. In 2021, about 13,117 people lived in Meeuwen-Gruitrode. The total area of the municipality was 91.31 square kilometers.
About Meeuwen-Gruitrode
Meeuwen-Gruitrode was a collection of smaller villages and hamlets. These smaller areas worked together as one local government.
Villages and Hamlets
The main villages that made up Meeuwen-Gruitrode were:
- Meeuwen
- Gruitrode
- Ellikom
- Neerglabbeek
- Wijshagen
It also included some smaller areas called hamlets. These were Muisven, Ophoven, Zoetebeek, Koestraat, and Plokrooi.
The Big Change
On January 1, 2019, Meeuwen-Gruitrode joined with another nearby municipality called Opglabbeek. They merged to form a brand new municipality named Oudsbergen. This means Meeuwen-Gruitrode is no longer a separate municipality on its own.
