Megan Denise Fox (born May 16, 1986) is an American actress. She started her acting career in the family movie Holiday in the Sun (2001). After that, she had many smaller roles in movies and TV shows. These included the teen musical comedy Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen (2004). She also had a main role in the ABC TV show Hope & Faith (2004–2006).

Her first big role was as Mikaela Banes in the very popular action movie Transformers (2007). She played this role again in the sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (2009). Fox also played the main character in the horror comedy Jennifer's Body (2009). She starred as April O'Neil in the superhero action movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014) and its sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows (2016). She also appeared in the fifth and sixth seasons of the Fox TV show New Girl (2016–2017).

Early life and training

Megan Denise Fox was born on May 16, 1986, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Her parents are Gloria Darlene and Franklin Thomas Fox. She spent her early childhood in nearby Rockwood. Her parents divorced when she was three years old. Her mother later remarried, and Megan and her sister were raised by her mother and stepfather. She grew up in a very strict religious family. She later went to Catholic school for 12 years. She lived with her mother until she earned enough money to live on her own.

Fox started training in dance and drama at age five in Kingston, Tennessee. She took dance classes at the community center. She was also part of her elementary school's chorus and swim team. At age 10, she moved to St. Petersburg, Florida, and kept up her training. When she was 13, Fox began modeling. She won several awards at a modeling convention in 1999. Fox went to high school in Port St. Lucie until her junior year. When she was 17, she finished school through a special program. This allowed her to move to Los Angeles, California.

Career highlights

Starting out in the 2000s

In 2001, Fox made her acting debut in the romantic comedy Holiday in the Sun. She played Brianna Wallace, a spoiled rich girl. This movie was released straight to video. In the next few years, she appeared in TV shows like What I Like About You and Two and a Half Men. She also appeared without being named in the credits in the action movie Bad Boys II (2003).

In 2004, Fox had her first movie role in the musical comedy Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. She played Carla Santini, a rival to the main character. She also got a main role on the ABC TV show Hope & Faith. She played Sydney Shanowski for two seasons until the show ended in 2006.

In 2007, Fox got the main female role of Mikaela Banes in the live-action movie Transformers. This movie was based on the popular toys and cartoons. Fox played the girlfriend of Shia LaBeouf's character, Sam Witwicky. She was nominated for several awards for this role. She played Mikaela again in the sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. This movie was released in 2009 and was a big success at the box office.

Fox was supposed to be in the third Transformers movie, Transformers: Dark of the Moon. However, she was not included. This was due to some disagreements with the director, Michael Bay.

In 2009, Fox had her first main role since the Transformers series in Jennifer's Body. The movie was written by Academy Award-winning writer Diablo Cody. At first, the movie got mixed reviews. But over time, it became very popular and was later seen as an important film for girls and women. The writer, Diablo Cody, said the movie was advertised in a way that didn't show what the movie was really about.

In April 2009, she started filming the movie Jonah Hex. She played Tallulah Black / Leila, a tough woman who was Jonah Hex's (Josh Brolin) partner. The movie was released in 2010. Even though her name was listed first, Fox said her role was a very small appearance. Jonah Hex did not do well with critics or at the box office.

Becoming more famous in the 2010s

Fox starred with Mickey Rourke in the drama Passion Play. This movie was released straight to video instead of in movie theaters. Rourke said the movie was "terrible." In 2010, Fox appeared in the music video for Eminem and Rihanna's song "Love the Way You Lie". In 2012, Fox had a small appearance in Sacha Baron Cohen's comedy movie The Dictator. She also had a role in Judd Apatow's comedy movie This Is 40. She voiced Lois Lane in the animated comedy Robot Chicken DC Comics Special.

In February 2013, Fox worked again with director Michael Bay. She starred as the main human character, April O'Neil, in his new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie (2014).

In 2015, Fox played Amelia Delthanis in the video game Stormfall: Rise of Balur. In October 2015, Fox temporarily joined the TV show New Girl. She played Reagan Lucas in the fifth and sixth seasons. Her acting in the show received good reviews. In 2016, Fox played April O'Neil again in the sequel Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows.

In 2018, it was announced that Fox would star in the Korean War movie The Battle of Jangsari. She played Marguerite Higgins, an American news reporter.

In 2019, Fox starred in the fantasy movie Above the Shadows. That same year, Fox appeared in Zeroville. This movie was not liked by critics and did not do well at the box office.

Current work in the 2020s

In 2020, Fox starred with Josh Duhamel in the family comedy movie Think Like a Dog. It was released on demand in June 2020. Also that year, she had the main role in the action movie Rogue.

In 2021, she starred in two thrillers: Midnight in the Switchgrass and Till Death.

In 2022, Fox starred in the comedy-drama Big Gold Brick. She also had a role in the musical drama Taurus.

In 2023, Fox was on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Fox played a crime boss named Alana in the 2023 thriller Johnny & Clyde. Fox played Gina in the fourth Expendables movie, Expend4bles. She also voiced Nitara in the video game Mortal Kombat 1. Both were released in September of that year.

In November 2023, Fox released her first book, Pretty Boys Are Poisonous. It is a collection of her own poetry.

Personal life

In 2009, Fox's then-boyfriend's home was robbed by a group of criminals. In 2013, she shared that her Christian faith is still very important to her. She believes it helps her stay grounded.

Fox and her former husband, Brian Austin Green, supported Generosity Water. They helped fund the creation of over ten water wells for the organization.

She has several tattoos. These include a Chinese symbol for "strength" on her neck. She also has a quote from the play King Lear that says "We will all laugh at gilded butterflies." Other tattoos include a yin and yang symbol, a crescent moon, and flowers. She once had a tattoo of Marilyn Monroe on her arm but had it removed. She said Monroe was a "negative character" and she did not want to attract that kind of energy.

Health and relationships

Fox has a condition called brachydactyly type D, which affects her thumbs. She has also talked about having obsessive–compulsive disorder (OCD) and feeling insecure. She has said that she has low self-esteem.

In her book Pretty Boys Are Poisonous, Fox shared that she had a miscarriage and an ectopic pregnancy in the past.

Fox started dating actor Brian Austin Green in 2004. They met on the set of Hope & Faith. She was 18 and he was 30. Fox said she had to convince him to date her because of the age difference.

Fox and Green got engaged in 2006. They ended their engagement in 2009 but got re-engaged in 2010. Fox said they had been continuously engaged since 2006.

Fox and Green married on June 24, 2010, in a private ceremony in Hawaii. They have three sons, born in 2012, 2014, and 2016. Fox also became a stepmother to Green's son from a previous relationship. Fox filed for divorce in 2015, but they got back together in 2016. In 2019, she asked to stop the divorce.

In May 2020, Green announced that he and Fox had separated after almost 10 years of marriage. In November 2020, Fox filed for divorce again. The divorce was finalized in October 2021.

In June 2020, Fox and singer Machine Gun Kelly made their relationship public. This was a few weeks after his song "Bloody Valentine" was released, which featured Fox in the music video. On January 12, 2022, Fox announced they were engaged. However, on March 21, 2024, she announced their engagement had been called off. In November 2024, Fox announced on Instagram that she was expecting a child with him.
