Megan Lai (Chinese: 賴雅妍; pinyin: Lài Yǎyán; born 5 December 1979) is a famous Taiwanese actress and singer. She is well-known for her roles in TV shows like Bromance, Miss Rose, Meteor Garden II, and Mars.

Life and Career

Early Life and Education

Megan Lai was born on December 5, 1979, in Yonghe, which is now part of New Taipei City. She is the younger of two sisters. Her dad runs a shop that sells traditional Chinese herbs. Her older sister is a teacher.

Megan is left-handed. She can even write backwards, like in a mirror! She can also write normally with her right hand. Because of this, she sometimes finds it hard to tell left from right.

She went to Taipei Municipal Datong High School. There, she was the leader of her school's pop dance club. Later, she earned her bachelor's degree in Information Communications from Shih Hsin University. In 2008, she started studying part-time at Ming Chuan University. She got her master's degree in design management in 2011.

Megan also has a special skill: she is a licensed barista. This means she knows how to make great coffee! She got her barista certificate in 2016.

Career Beginnings

Megan Lai first appeared on TV in 1999. It was on a Taiwanese variety show called Guess. She was a contestant in a fun segment called "Do not judge a book by its cover."

After that, a modeling agency discovered her. She began her career as a model. She appeared in magazines, TV commercials, music videos, and fashion shows.

In 2002, a famous TV producer, Angie Chai, noticed Megan. This happened after Megan was in a music video for singer Vic Chou.

In December 2004, Megan released her first music album, called Love. This album included songs from TV shows she starred in, like Mars and Starry Night.

Becoming a Lead Actress

In 2010, Megan Lai acted in the drama Because of You. She worked alongside actors like Baron Chen and Lego Lee.

After finishing her master's degree in 2011, Megan got a role in the police drama Next Heroes. Filming started that same month. The show began airing in October of that year. Also in 2011, Megan played Su Hai-er in the historical drama The Invaluable Treasure 1949. Her performance earned her a nomination for Best Actress at the Golden Bell Awards.

In 2012, Megan was chosen for the romantic comedy Miss Rose. She played the main character, Luo Sze-yi, opposite actor Roy Chiu.

Rising Popularity

In 2014, Megan Lai took on a special role in the movie Café. Waiting. Love. She played A Bu-si, a barista. This movie was based on a popular novel by Giddens Ko. To get ready for the role, Megan took barista lessons. She even cut her long hair short! She kept her role a secret until it was officially announced.

Megan also acted in 10,000 Miles, a movie produced by Jay Chou. She played an ultramarathon coach. An ultramarathon is a very long running race. Megan trained for three months with a real ultramarathon runner to prepare for this role. The movie came out in December 2016.

In September 2015, Megan was nominated for another award for her role in the film The End of Love. In the same month, she started filming the romantic comedy Bromance. In this show, she played Pi Ya-nuo. This character had to pretend to be a boy until her 26th birthday for good luck. The show was a huge hit both in Taiwan and around the world. Megan received a lot of praise for her acting in it.

In 2016, Megan joined the cast of a musical called More Than Words. This musical celebrated the life and songs of artist Chang Yu-sheng.

After a short break from acting, Megan returned to TV in 2018. She made a guest appearance in the series Meet Me @ 1006. Then, she acted in the movie Fagara. This film was based on a novel by Amy Cheung. Her role in Fagara earned her a nomination for Best Actress.

Megan also starred in The Last Thieves, a movie about business and technology. It was released in late 2019.
