Megan Lai's Early Life and Education
Growing Up in Taiwan
Megan Lai was born on December 5, 1979, in Yonghe, which is now part of New Taipei City in Taiwan. She is the younger of two daughters. Her father owns a shop that sells traditional Chinese medicinal herbs. Her older sister works as a teacher.
Megan is naturally left-handed. She can even write backwards, which is called mirror text, and also write normally with her right hand. Because of this, she sometimes finds it tricky to tell her left from her right!
School and College Life
Megan went to Taipei Municipal Datong High School. While there, she was the leader of her school's pop dance club. After high school, she studied Information Communications at Shih Hsin University and earned her bachelor's degree.
Later, in 2008, she decided to go back to school. She studied part-time at Ming Chuan University. In 2011, she completed her master's degree in design management. Megan also has a special skill: she is a licensed barista, meaning she knows how to make great coffee! She earned her barista certificate in 2016.
Megan Lai's Career Journey
Starting Out in Entertainment

In 2002, a well-known TV producer named Angie Chai noticed Megan. This happened after Megan appeared in a music video for singer Vic Chou.
In December 2004, Megan released her first music album, titled Love. This album included songs from the TV shows Mars and Starry Night, where Megan also acted.
Becoming a Main Actress
In 2010, Megan starred in the drama Because of You. She acted alongside other popular stars like Baron Chen and Lego Lee.
After getting her master's degree in January 2011, Megan was chosen for a police crime drama called Next Heroes. Filming started right away, and the show began airing in October of that year. Also in 2011, Megan played the character Su Hai-er in the historical drama The Invaluable Treasure 1949. Her performance in this role earned her a nomination for Best Actress at the 46th Golden Bell Awards.
In 2012, Megan was cast in the romantic comedy Miss Rose on SETTV. She played the main character, Luo Sze-yi, opposite actor Roy Chiu.
Gaining More Popularity
In 2014, Megan took on a special role as A Bu-si, a barista, in the movie Café. Waiting. Love. This movie was based on a popular novel by Giddens Ko. To prepare for this part, Megan took barista lessons and even cut her long hair short. She kept her involvement in the movie a secret until her role was officially announced.
Megan also played an ultramarathon coach in Jay Chou's movie, 10,000 Miles. She acted alongside Sean Huang and Darren Wang. To get ready for this role, Megan trained for three months with a real ultramarathon runner, Kevin Lin. The movie was released in December 2016.
In September 2015, Megan received another nomination for Golden Bell Award for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film for her role in the film The End of Love. In the same month, she started filming the romantic comedy Bromance. In this show, she played Pi Ya-nuo, a girl who had to pretend to be a boy until her 26th birthday. The drama became very successful both in Taiwan and internationally, and Megan received a lot of praise for her acting.
In 2016, Megan joined the cast of a musical called More Than Words. This show celebrated the life and music of artist Chang Yu-sheng.
After a short break from acting, Megan returned to TV in 2018 with a guest appearance in Meet Me @ 1006. She then starred in the movie Fagara alongside Sammi Cheng and Richie Jen.
