Wayne Lim Junjie, known to many as JJ Lin, is a famous singer, songwriter, and record producer from Singapore. He was born on March 27, 1981. Besides music, he is also a businessman and a novelist.

JJ Lin started his music journey in 2003 with his first album, Music Voyager. He has won many important awards, including three Golden Melody Awards. These awards are like the Grammys for Chinese music. He won "Best New Artist" and twice won "Best Mandarin Male Singer".

Early life and family

JJ Lin grew up in Singapore in a Hokkien family. He went to Jing Shan Primary School, Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), and Saint Andrew's Junior College. After school, he completed his National Service, which is a period of military training for young men in Singapore.

His family has always been involved in business. His grandfather ran a shipping company. His father works in telecommunications. JJ Lin's mother owns a karaoke business and knows a lot about Chinese classical music. This background helped shape his love for music. His older brother, who works in banking, also encouraged JJ Lin to follow his music dreams.

Music career

Starting out (2003–2006)

JJ Lin sings in many languages. He sings in Mandarin, English, Hokkien, and Cantonese. He even released some songs in Cantonese. In Taiwan, he won the "Best New Artist" award at the Golden Melody Awards.

After his National Service, JJ Lin signed with Ocean Butterflies International. This company helped him release his first album in 2003 when he was 22. Later, in 2011, he joined Warner Music Taiwan.

JJ Lin is known for his amazing songwriting and singing skills. He wrote many songs for other artists even when he was still training. He has written over a hundred songs for other famous singers. Some of his well-known songs for others include "Remember" for A-Mei and "When You" for Cyndi Wang. In Singapore, he performed a special version of "Home," the theme song for the Singapore National Day Parade in 2004. JJ Lin's music quickly became very popular across Asia, selling millions of copies.

Growing success (2007–2009)

In July 2007, JJ Lin set a Guinness World Record. He signed 3,052 CDs in just 2 hours and 30 minutes! He couldn't eat or drink during this time. On average, he signed each CD in only 2.7 seconds.

In May 2008, he performed at a charity event for victims of the 2008 Sichuan earthquake in China. He also gave a lot of money to help and wrote a song called "Love and Hope" for the victims.

His sixth album, Sixology, came out in October 2008. It sold 280,000 copies in just one week! Around this time, he also started his own fashion brand called SMUDGE.

In May 2009, JJ Lin won three awards at the Compass Awards in Singapore. These awards celebrate top music artists. He won "Top Local Artiste of the Year" for earning the most royalties. He also received the Singapore Youth Award that same year.

However, in 2009, he had to take a break from singing. His voice was hurt by acid reflux and the flu, combined with his busy schedule. He went back to Singapore to get better. He released his seventh album, Hundred Days, in December 2009.

More achievements (2010–2013)

In May 2010, JJ Lin performed in America for the first time. He was part of the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Concert Tour. In June 2010, he performed with American singer Sean Kingston at the opening of the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.

His eighth album, She Says, was released in December 2010. His ninth album, Lost N Found, came out in December 2011.

To celebrate his tenth year in music, JJ Lin released Stories Untold in March 2013. This album came with short films that told stories behind the songs. He worked with other artists like Ashin and his own brother, Eugene Lim, on this album. He also started his "Timeline" world tour in July 2013, beginning in Taipei, Taiwan.

Later works and tours (2014–present)

JJ Lin helped write the song "Dreams" and performed it live at the Chingay Parade in 2015. He also sang a duet with Japanese singer Ayumi Hamasaki for her music video, "The Gift." In 2015, he sang "Our Singapore," the theme song for Singapore's National Day.

His experimental album, From M.E. to Myself, was released in December 2015. In July 2016, he released "If Miracles had a Sound," a music documentary about his creative process.

In December 2017, JJ Lin released his album Message in a Bottle. He also announced his "Sanctuary" concert tour, which started in Shanghai in March 2018. In 2019, he released "The Story of Us," with actress Wu Jinyan starring in the music video.

In January 2020, JJ Lin released "I'll Stay With You." This song was dedicated to the medical staff in Wuhan, China, who were helping patients during the COVID-19 outbreak. In October 2021, he released his first English album, "Like You Do." He even worked with English singer Anne-Marie on the song "Bedroom."

Other activities

Ambassador roles and TV shows

JJ Lin has appeared in many advertisements for popular brands like Sprite, Beats, and Cornetto Royale. He is also a tourist ambassador for Singapore. In 2012, he became an IP Ambassador for Singapore's Intellectual Property Office.

He has been a mentor on several TV shows. In 2015, he advised Team Harlem Yu on The Voice of China. From 2016 to 2018, he was a judge on the variety show "Dream Voice" for three seasons. In 2019, he appeared on the Chinese food and travel show Chef Nic. In February 2021, he performed a medley of songs to celebrate the launch of Disney+ in Singapore.

Business ventures

In 2017, JJ Lin started his own business career. He founded Team Still Moving under Gunfire (Team SMG), which is a professional esports team. Esports are competitive video games. Team SMG started with the game Arena of Valor and has grown to include games like PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and Dota 2.

In 2022, JJ Lin announced a new project called ARC. It's a digital community that uses non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to confirm member profiles. He also opened a pop-up coffee shop called Miracle Coffee at the ArtScience Museum in Singapore. A permanent Miracle Coffee shop is planned to open there in 2023.
