Marina Bay Sands is a super cool resort in Singapore. It's a famous landmark that stands right on Marina Bay. When it first opened in 2010, it was one of the most expensive buildings ever built!
This amazing resort has a huge hotel with 1,850 rooms. It also features a massive convention center, a luxury shopping mall called The Shoppes, and the unique ArtScience Museum. You can find a theater, the world's first floating Apple store, and many famous restaurants here too.
The most striking part of Marina Bay Sands is its three tall towers. On top of these towers sits the Sands SkyPark. This incredible SkyPark connects all three towers and is long enough to fit three football fields! It even has a 150-meter (490 ft) infinity swimming pool that seems to stretch forever. The SkyPark is built on a platform that hangs over one of the towers.
The famous architect Moshe Safdie designed this huge resort. It is owned by a company called Las Vegas Sands.

Discovering Marina Bay Sands
Marina Bay Sands is one of two special resorts built in Singapore. These resorts were created to attract more tourists and help Singapore's economy grow. They were given special licenses to operate for 30 years.
The company Las Vegas Sands won the chance to build Marina Bay Sands in 2006. They planned to invest a lot of money into the project. However, building it was quite a challenge! The cost of materials like sand and steel went up, and there weren't enough workers. This caused delays and made the project even more expensive.
Despite the challenges, Marina Bay Sands opened in stages. The casino opened first in April 2010. Then, the resort and the amazing SkyPark officially opened in June 2010. The theater was ready for its first show in November, and the ArtScience Museum opened in February 2011. This marked the full completion of the resort.
Growing Bigger and Better
Marina Bay Sands has continued to grow. In 2019, plans were announced for a big expansion. This included building a fourth hotel tower with 1,000 luxury suites and a large arena that can hold 15,000 people.
By October 2024, the investment for this expansion increased even more. The new development, called "Marina Bay Sands IR2," will add 570 luxury suites, more convention space, its own SkyPark, and fancy restaurants. Construction for this expansion began in July 2025. Also in 2025, all the hotel rooms in the original towers were renovated.
Amazing Features of the Resort
Marina Bay Sands has three hotel towers, each 55 stories tall. These towers were completed in July 2009. The towers are connected by the 1.2-hectare Sands SkyPark. From the SkyPark's observation deck, you can see incredible views of the city.
At the base of the towers, you'll find the Theatre Block for performances, the Convention and Exhibition Facilities Block, and the Casino Block. The casino has many gaming tables and slot machines. Singaporean citizens and permanent residents pay a fee to enter the casino.
The ArtScience Museum and Shows
Next to the main blocks is the ArtScience Museum. It looks like a beautiful lotus with 10 "fingers" reaching up to the sky. It has 21 gallery spaces for exhibitions. The roof can even open to create a waterfall from collected rainwater during the day, and it puts on laser shows at night!
Every evening, a spectacular light and water show called Spectra is performed at the Event Plaza along the Waterfront Promenade. This show replaced an earlier one called Wonder Full in 2017.
The Sky-High Pool and Shopping Fun
The Sands SkyPark is home to the world's longest elevated swimming pool. This 146-meter (479 ft) long infinity pool is located 191 meters (627 ft) above the ground. It's made of a huge amount of stainless steel and holds a lot of water! The SkyPark also has gardens, hundreds of trees and plants, and a public viewing deck.
The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands is a giant shopping mall. It has almost 1,000,000 square feet of space with over 270 stores and restaurants. You can find many luxury brands here.
A canal runs through the shopping mall, just like in The Venetian in Las Vegas. You can even take Sampan rides on the canal! The Shoppes also has several restaurants by famous chefs. The north side of the Shoppes once had an ice skating rink, but it was replaced in 2017 by the Digital Light Canvas, an interactive art installation.
Unique Pavilions and Entertainment

When Marina Bay Sands first opened, it had two special Crystal Pavilions on the waterfront. One of these pavilions now houses the world's largest Louis Vuitton boutique, which is on a floating island! It's connected to the main shopping mall by an underwater tunnel. The other pavilion became Singapore's third Apple Store in 2020. This Apple Store is unique because it's the company's first store that sits on water and has a spherical design.
The resort also has the Sands Theatre, a performance venue that can seat 2,183 guests. It has hosted many famous musicals and shows like The Lion King and Wicked.
The resort's architect, Moshe Safdie, also created an Art Path within the complex. This path features artworks by five different artists. These art pieces interact with the environment, using light, water, and wind to create a special experience.
Spectacular Light and Water Show
Marina Bay Sands is famous for its nightly light and water show called Spectra. This amazing multimedia show was designed by an Australian company called Laservision. It uses advanced technology to create a dramatic and unique experience.
The 15-minute show is performed every night at 8 PM and 9 PM. On Fridays and Saturdays, there's an extra show at 10 PM. It's a fantastic way to end your day at Marina Bay Sands!
