Eason Chan Yick-shun is a famous singer and actor from Hong Kong, born on July 27, 1974. He is known as one of the most popular and important singers in both Cantopop (Chinese pop music from Hong Kong) and Mandopop (Chinese pop music from mainland China and Taiwan).

Eason Chan has won many top music awards in Hong Kong and Taiwan. He holds records for winning the "Ultimate Male Singer – Gold" award 10 times and "My Favorite Male Singer" award 9 years in a row in Hong Kong. In Taiwan, he has won the prestigious Golden Melody Awards for "Best Male Mandarin Singer" three times.

He has performed over 300 concerts around the world since 1999. He was the first Chinese singer to hold a tour at London's O2 Arena. He was also the first Hong Kong singer to have solo concerts at Beijing's National Stadium, also known as the Bird's Nest. Eason Chan is one of the most-streamed artists in Hong Kong on Spotify. By December 2024, he had over 4 million monthly listeners on Spotify.

Early Life and Education

Eason Chan was born in Hong Kong on July 27, 1974. When he was 12, he moved to England to study. He went to Dauntsey's School and later Kingston University, where he studied architecture. He also trained his singing voice at the Royal Academy of Music.

In 1995, Eason returned to Hong Kong to join the New Talent Singing Awards Competition. He won first place on July 16, 1995. This win led him to sign with Capital Artists, starting his music career instead of becoming an architect.

He has won many major music awards in Hong Kong. This includes the Most Popular Male Singer award at the Jade Solid Gold Best Ten Music Awards Presentation twice, in 2006 and 2007.

His Cantonese album "U87," released in 2005, was named one of the "Five Asian Albums Worth Buying" by Time magazine. This album was also the best-selling non-concert album in Hong Kong in 2005. Eason Chan has been one of Hong Kong's top-selling artists almost every year since 2000.

Eason Chan has also been very successful in the Mandopop music scene. He has won many awards in mainland China and Taiwan, especially the Golden Melody Awards. He is one of the few non-Taiwanese singers to win these awards. He won "Best Male Mandarin Singer" in 2003, 2015, and 2018. He also won "Album of the Year" twice and "Best Mandarin Album" in 2009.

In 2017, Eason Chan released the Mandarin album "C'mon In~." This album won Album of the Year and Best Male Mandarin Singer at the 29th Golden Melody Awards. He became the Hong Kong singer with the most wins in that category.

In 2018, his album "L.O.V.E.", mostly in Cantonese, was very successful at Taiwan's 30th Golden Melody Awards. It was nominated for Song of the Year, Album of the Year, and Producer of the Year. The album's producer, Carl Wong, won "Producer of the Year, Album." This was the first time a Cantonese album won this award at the Golden Melody Awards.

Eason Chan's Mandarin song "Warrior of the Darkness" (孤勇者), released in November 2021 for Riot Games' series Arcane: League of Legends Season 1, became a huge hit. It was especially popular among kids. In less than two years, the song had over 8.4 billion streams, making it the biggest digital song in UMG China's history.

More than 28 years after his debut, Eason Chan continues to release new music. He released the album "Chin Up!" and started his Fear and Dreams world tour in 2023. The Cantonese song "Homo Sapiens" from "Chin Up!" won Best Lyrics at the 34th Golden Melody Awards. This was the first time a Cantonese song won this award.

In November 2024, Eason Chan released another Chinese theme song for Riot Games' series Arcane: League of Legends Season 2. The song "Isha's Song" (這樣很好) was part of the official Arcane Season Two soundtrack. In April 2025, NetEase Cloud Music announced that Eason Chan was the most-shared artist on their platform, with his music shared over 150 million times. He also had the highest number of songs (66) with over 100 million streams.

Musical Performances

On August 18 and 19, 2005, Eason Chan performed in the musical Wrestling with God (人神鬥). He was both an actor and a producer for the show. The story was about angels competing to protect the only man left in the world, played by Eason Chan. The audience enjoyed how the performers told the story through song and dance.

Charity Work

Eason Chan has been an ambassador for Orbis International in Hong Kong since 2006. Orbis is an organization that helps people with visual impairment. He has traveled to India and Sichuan, China, to visit children and older people with vision problems. He helps raise money for Orbis.

In 2006, he married Hilary Tsui. They have a daughter named Constance, who was born in 2004. When Constance was about 2 years old, she appeared on the cover of his album Life Continues. In 2013, Eason Chan became an ambassador for the "Shall We Talk" initiative. This program promotes mental health and helps people pay attention to their well-being. His classic song, "Shall We Talk," was chosen as the theme song.

In May 2025, Eason Chan had Covid-19. This led to the cancellation of his planned concert in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

In Hong Kong, he is a big winner of music awards. He holds records for winning major awards at CRHK's "Ultimate Song Chart Awards Presentation." This includes nine "Supreme Grand Prix du Disque" awards and seven "Grand Song Award" wins for songs like "K Song King" and "Unconditional." He has also won "Ultimate Male Singer Gold" ten times and "My Most Favorite Male Singer" nine times in a row.

Eason Chan also holds the record for winning the "Most Outstanding Male Singer" award 13 years in a row. He has won the "Global Chinese Gold Song" award ten times at RTHK's Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Award.
