In 1995, Chan returned to Hong Kong. He joined the New Talent Singing Awards Competition and won first place! This led to a contract with Capital Artists, a record label. This changed his path from becoming an architect to starting a career in music.
Eason Chan's Music Career
Many music critics and other musicians say Eason Chan is one of the best singers of his time. From the beginning, people thought he would be a leader in Cantopop. He brought a fresh new sound to the Hong Kong music scene. In the 2000s, he became the top male singer of his generation, winning many important awards.

His Cantonese album "U87", released in 2005, was named one of the five best Asian albums by Time magazine. This album was also the best-selling non-concert album in Hong Kong in 2005. He was Hong Kong's highest-selling male artist in 2002, 2003, and 2007.

Some Chinese critics have called Eason Chan the next God of Songs after Jacky Cheung. However, Eason has said he wants to create his own name and not just be known as Jacky Cheung's successor. They even sang a song together called "天下太平" in 2006.
Eason Chan can play several instruments during his live concerts. These include the piano, guitar, harmonica, and accordion. He is also a songwriter, meaning he writes his own songs.
