Melissa Wu, born on May 3, 1992, is an amazing Australian diver. She has competed for Australia in five Olympic Games. She won a silver medal at the 2008 Olympic Games and a bronze medal at the 2020 Olympic Games.
Melissa has also represented Australia in five Commonwealth Games. She earned gold medals in 2010, 2018, and 2022. She also won silver medals in 2006 and 2010. Melissa is supported by a scholarship from the NSW Institute of Sport (NSWIS).

Melissa Wu's Diving Career
Melissa started diving in 2003. That same year, she broke a bone in her left arm. This happened when she accidentally landed on a trampoline. She had to stop training for six months to recover.
Early Wins and Commonwealth Games
After her injury, Melissa quickly became a top diver. She won many junior and state titles in 2004 and 2005. In 2006, she won the individual 10-metre platform at the Australian Open Diving Championships. This big win helped her join the team for the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
At the 2006 Commonwealth Games, Melissa won a silver medal. She competed in the synchronised 10-metre platform with her partner, Alexandra Croak. She also finished fifth in the individual 10-metre platform event.
Olympic Medals and Achievements
In 2008, Melissa made history at the Beijing Olympic Games. She won a silver medal with Briony Cole in the synchronised 10-metre platform. This made her the youngest Australian ever to win an Olympic diving medal. She also reached the finals in the women's 10-metre platform, finishing sixth.
At the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi, Melissa continued her success. She won a gold medal in the synchronised 10-metre platform with Alexandra Croak. She also earned a silver medal in the individual 10-metre platform.
Melissa competed in the 10-metre individual platform at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. She placed fourth in this event. She then finished fifth in the same event at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Melissa Wu lives in Sydney, Australia. Her father has Chinese heritage. She is related to other famous Australian athletes. Her cousin is James Stannard, a rugby player. Her second cousin is Jana Pittman, a runner. Melissa's brother, Joshua, and sister, Madeline, both train in weightlifting.
Melissa has two special tattoos. She has a tattoo of the Olympic rings shaped like hearts on her right leg. She also has a tattoo across her left rib that says, 'only as much as I dream can I be.'
