What is Flight 29 Down About?
The show follows a group of teens after their plane crashes. They were flying to an eco-adventure camping trip in Palau. A big tropical storm caused their plane to crash on a South Pacific island.
The teens use a video diary to record their experiences. This diary is powered by a solar charger. They talk about their daily struggles and how they are trying to survive. The show is like a teen version of Lost, but without any magic or mystery. It also shares ideas with The New People and Gordon Korman's Island books.

Nathan McHugh
In the first season, Nathan thinks he should be the leader. He is a Boy Scout and brags about his skills. Nathan is good friends with Melissa. Later, he starts to like Daley. Sometimes Nathan feels useless, like when he accidentally shoots down their signal kite.
Daley Marin
Daley is the class president from their school. She is a hard worker and likes things to be perfect. Daley is Lex's stepsister. She and Nathan often argue, but they also like each other. Daley becomes the group's leader after Jackson. She tries to solve problems by voting, but this sometimes causes arguments.
Eric McGorrill
Eric is the group's comedian and a bit of a slacker. He tries to avoid chores. Eric likes to read other people's video diaries and share their secrets. He accidentally broke their lighter, leaving them without fire for a while. Eric gets very sick from eating shellfish because of an allergy. Melissa saves him with a shot.
Cody Jackson
Cody, or "Jackson" as he is usually called, is 16. He often keeps to himself. Melissa invited him on the trip. On the island, Jackson helps the group when needed. He is the only one who truly listens to Lex. Jackson was chosen as the first leader but later gave the job to Daley. He becomes very close with Melissa by the end of the series.
Taylor Hagan
Taylor starts out spoiled and used to being pampered. She thinks being stranded is only temporary. But she soon shows hidden talents. Taylor finds lots of fruit and even starts a fire. She believes everyone has a special skill. Taylor creates a fun holiday called "Chilloween" to cheer everyone up. She becomes more caring and hardworking over time.
Melissa Wu
Melissa has been best friends with Nathan since kindergarten. She is one of the most sensible people on the island. Melissa sometimes is too hard on herself. She has a secret crush on Jackson, which Taylor accidentally reveals. Melissa tries to be friends with everyone. She eventually becomes good friends with Abby.

Abby eventually splits the group to find other people on the island.
Ian Milbauer
Ian is a surfer from California. He often makes funny comments. Ian is one of Abby's best friends on the island.
Jory Cavanaugh
Jory is friendly and quiet. She leaves the main group with Ian, Abby, and Captain Russell. She is not seen again until the Hotel Tango movie.

Story Summary
Season One
A plane carrying ten teenagers and a pilot crashes on a tropical island. This happens after a storm causes an engine to explode. Everyone survives the crash. Three teens and the pilot leave to explore the island. The remaining group chooses a leader and tries to survive. A big monsoon storm destroys their camp and communication equipment. However, they made a brief contact with another plane before the storm hit.
Season Two
The group continues to survive. The storm from Season One ruined their camp and washed their plane out to sea. Daley is chosen as the new leader. She tries to make decisions using democracy (voting). The plane later washes back ashore with a big hole. The survivors find a time capsule from a general who lived on the island during World War II. They start to believe there might be other people on the island.
The Movie: Hotel Tango
The movie, Flight 29 Down: The Hotel Tango, was the series finale in 2007. The castaways split into two groups. One group stays on the beach. The other group travels to find life on the island. They discover an old concrete hotel and other buildings from World War II. They find the pilot and the two other survivors there. The pilot is very sick and acting strangely. In the end, the Navy rescues all the castaways. They are saved just before a big storm, Typhoon Melissa, hits the island.
