Members of the Federal Legislative Council (1955–59) (1955)
1st Parliament Members of the Dewan Rakyat (1959)
2nd Parliament Members of the Dewan Rakyat (1964)

In 1955, something very important happened in Malaya: the first ever general election! This was a big step towards Malaya becoming an independent country. People got to vote for who they wanted to represent them in the government.

There were 52 spots, called "seats," that people could vote for. The political party that won the most seats also got to choose seven more members. The Alliance Party was very popular and won 51 out of the 52 seats. The Pan-Malayan Islamic Party won the last seat. After the election, Raja Uda Raja Muhammad was chosen as the Speaker. He was like the leader of the council meetings, similar to the Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat today.

This article lists the people who became members of the Federal Legislative Council after this historic election in 1955.

Understanding the Federal Legislative Council

The Federal Legislative Council was like the parliament of Malaya before it became Malaysia. Its members helped make important decisions and laws for the country. The 1955 election was the first time most of these members were chosen by the people through voting.
