Meredosia is a small village located in Morgan County, Illinois, United States. In 2020, about 826 people lived there. It is part of the larger Jacksonville area.

Geography of Meredosia
Meredosia is in the northwest part of Morgan County. It sits on the east bank of the Illinois River. This river forms the border with Pike County.
Roads and Rivers
Illinois Route 104 runs through the village. It is known as Main Street. This road goes east to Jacksonville, which is the county seat. Jacksonville is about 21 miles away. Route 104 also goes west across the river to Quincy, which is about 50 miles away.
Natural Areas
The Meredosia National Wildlife Refuge is just north of the village. It is a protected area for wildlife. It is located within the Illinois River floodplain. The name Marais d'Osier was the original French name for this area. It means "willow swamp" and was used in the early 1800s.

Meredosia has seen some big changes over the years. These changes have affected the local community.
Power Station Closure
In 2011, a company called Ameren Energy Resources closed its power station in Meredosia. This was a big event for the village. Over 50 jobs were lost, which was a major challenge for the small community. The power plant closed because of the costs of meeting environmental rules. Ameren has said the plant might open again. It could be used to test new clean coal technology.
New Bridge Construction
In June 2018, the community celebrated a new bridge. This bridge goes over the Illinois River. The old bridge was built in 1936. It had become too narrow for today's traffic. The old bridge was taken down during the summer of 2018. This new bridge connects Meredosia to Quincy, Illinois. It is also an important link for travel across central Illinois.
