Merredin College is a government school in Merredin. Merredin is a town in the Wheatbelt region. It is about 260 kilometers (160 miles) east of Perth, Western Australia.
The college is a comprehensive school. This means it teaches students of all abilities. It includes both a primary and secondary school. Students can attend as day students or live at the boarding school.
Merredin College was created in 2012. It was formed by combining three older schools: Merredin Senior High School (which started in 1957), South Merredin Primary School, and North Merredin Primary School. In 2018, the school had 594 students from Year K to Year 12. The principal of the school is Beverley Stanes. The WA Department of Education runs the school.
About Merredin College
In 2004, the school received money from the federal government. This funding was part of a program to help boys in their education.
Katherine Ward was the principal of the school in 2009.
In 2011, new buildings started to be built at the high school site. This was to make the campus big enough for students from Kindergarten to Year 12. Both North Merredin Primary and South Merredin Primary schools joined together at this one college site.
The new campus included many new features. There were new classrooms, undercover areas, and a canteen. It also got new music rooms, a medical clinic, and a new staff room. The library was made bigger, and the old high school rooms were updated.
The number of students at the school changed over time. In 2009, there were 302 students from Year 8 to Year 12. This number was 298 in 2010 and 288 in 2011. When the school became a K-12 college in 2012, the total number of students increased to 604.
