Merton is a town located in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, in the United States. A long time ago, before Wisconsin became a state, this area was known as Warren.

In 2020, about 8,277 people lived in Merton. The town of Merton actually surrounds two villages: Chenequa and Merton (the village). Several smaller, unincorporated communities are also part of the town. These include Camp Whitcomb, Monches, and North Lake. Part of the community of Stone Bank is also within the town's borders. Long ago, a very early Swedish-American settlement called New Upsala was located here.

Geography of Merton

Merton covers a total area of about 28.3 square miles (73.2 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 25.7 square miles (66.7 square kilometers), is land. The rest, about 2.5 square miles (6.5 square kilometers), is water. This means Merton has many lakes and waterways.

The town is part of what people call the "Lake Country" area of Waukesha County. This name comes from the many beautiful lakes found in this region.
