Mia Hägg is a Swedish architect born in 1970 in Umeå, Sweden. She runs her own architecture firm called Habiter Autrement (HA) in Paris, France.
Starting Out as an Architect
Mia Hägg studied architecture at Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. She also studied at the École nationale supérieure d'architecture de Paris-Belleville in Paris, France.
After her studies, she worked with a famous architect named Jean Nouvel from 1998 to 2001. They worked on exciting projects like the Shiodome Project in Tokyo, Japan. They also helped design the Quai Branly Museum in Paris.
In 2002, Mia Hägg started working with another well-known architecture firm, Herzog & de Meuron. She quickly became important there. In 2003, she was the Project Manager for the National Stadium of the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. This stadium is often called the "Bird's Nest" because of its unique design. By 2005, she became an Associate at the firm. This meant she was in charge of many big projects and design competitions in countries like France, Switzerland, Russia, and the United States.
Founding Habiter Autrement
In January 2007, Mia Hägg decided to start her own company, Habiter Autrement. The name means "To Live Differently" in French.
That same year, her new firm won a big award. They won first prize for designing 130 fancy homes in Bordeaux, France. They worked with Jean Nouvel's team on this project. Habiter Autrement also got a direct job to plan a huge area in Toledo, Spain. This plan includes 2,000 homes, shops, and public spaces. It is currently being built.
Mia Hägg's firm was also chosen to design a special villa in Inner Mongolia. This was part of a project called Ordos 100. In 2008, Habiter Autrement was asked to help design a new plan for Slussen. This is a main traffic area in Stockholm, Sweden.
Recent Projects and Collaborations
Habiter Autrement is always busy with new projects. They are currently working on 42 homes at Entrepôt MacDonalds in Paris. This project follows a bigger plan made by another famous firm, OMA.
In 2009, Mia Hägg's firm was asked to create an "Energy Systems" project for the city of Stockholm. This project focuses on making the city more energy-efficient. The same year, they received a direct job to design a covered stadium in Toledo, Spain.
In 2010, the firm was invited to plan a large area in Paris. This plan included a big park and new buildings. In 2011, they started working on a new urban center in the harbor of Bordeaux. They also began a study for a stadium and master plan for Djurgården IF in Stockholm. Mia Hägg often works with other architecture firms. For these last two projects, she invited Barcode Architects from Rotterdam to be her working partner.
