Early Life and College Sports
Micah Ross grew up in Jacksonville, Florida. He went to Andrew Jackson High School there. After high school, he attended Jacksonville University.
At Jacksonville University, Micah was a talented athlete. He played forward for the Jacksonville Dolphins men's basketball team. He played basketball from 1994 to 1998. In 110 games, he averaged almost 10 points and 6 rebounds per game.
After his basketball career ended, Micah tried college football. In 1998, he played one season as a wide receiver for the Jacksonville Dolphins football team. He played in 10 games. He caught 17 passes for 255 yards and scored two touchdowns.
Professional Playing Career
Micah Ross played for a few different teams in his professional career. He started in smaller leagues before joining the NFL.
Jacksonville Barracudas
In 1998, right after his college basketball days, Micah played basketball professionally. He joined the Jacksonville Barracudas. This was a team in the United States Basketball League. At the same time, he was also playing college football for Jacksonville University.
Jacksonville Tomcats
In 2000, Micah Ross switched to playing football in a different league. He played for the Jacksonville Tomcats in the AF2 league. He played both wide receiver and linebacker for the team.
Jacksonville Jaguars
Micah Ross signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars in the NFL on August 17, 2001. He was a free agent, meaning he wasn't drafted. He was waived, or released, just 11 days later.
However, he signed with the Jaguars' practice squad on October 31. A practice squad is where players train with the team. On December 8, he was moved to the active roster. This meant he could play in real games.
Micah made his NFL debut the very next day. He returned two kicks for 35 yards in a game against the Cincinnati Bengals. The Jaguars won that game 14–10. In 2001, he played in five games. He mostly played as a gunner on special teams and a kick returner. He had eight kick returns for 150 yards and made one tackle.
In 2002, Micah Ross played in all 16 games for the Jaguars. He played off the bench, meaning he wasn't a starter. He made 10 tackles and recovered one fumble. On November 17, he recovered a punt that the other team fumbled. This helped the Jaguars score a touchdown. They won that game against the Houston Texans 24–21.
Micah did not play any games for the Jaguars in 2003. He was released by the team on October 3.
San Diego Chargers
