Michael Adams' Basketball Journey
Michael Adams started his basketball journey playing for the Boston College Eagles in college. After showing off his talent there, he was picked by the Sacramento Kings in the 1985 NBA draft. This meant he was chosen to play for a professional team.
Early Career and Big Achievements
In his first season with the Kings, Michael Adams didn't play much. So, he spent some time playing in another league called the Continental Basketball Association (CBA) with the Bay State Bombardiers. He did really well there! He was named the CBA Rookie of the Year in 1986. This award goes to the best new player in the league. He was also chosen for the all-league and all-defensive second teams, showing he was great at both scoring and defending.
Shining in the NBA: Denver and Washington
After his time in the CBA, Adams joined the Washington Bullets. But his most impressive season came in 1990–1991 when he played for the Denver Nuggets. He scored an amazing 26.5 points per game and made 10.5 assists per game. An assist is when you pass the ball to a teammate who then scores. During that season, he even scored 54 points in one game! He also made 9 three-pointers in that game, which was a career high for him.
After this fantastic season, he went back to the Washington Bullets. In 1992, he was selected for the NBA All-Star Game, which is a huge achievement. In his first game back with the Bullets, he showed off his defensive skills by getting 9 steals. A steal is when you take the ball away from an opponent. He also scored 23 points and made 13 assists in that game!
Michael Adams' Unique "Push Shot"
Michael Adams was famous for his special "push shot." This was a unique way he shot the basketball. He retired from playing in 1996 while with the Charlotte Hornets. By the end of his career, he had scored 9,621 points and made 4,209 assists. He was also one of the top players in the league for making three-point shots. He even set a record by making a three-pointer in 79 games in a row! This record was later broken by Stephen Curry, another famous basketball player.
Michael Adams' Coaching Career
After his playing days, Michael Adams became a basketball coach. He worked with several teams, helping other players improve their skills.
Coaching Roles and Teams
He was an assistant coach for the International Basketball League's Richmond Rhythm. He also worked as an assistant coach for the NBA's Vancouver Grizzlies (who later became the Memphis Grizzlies). Adams even coached in the WNBA, which is the women's professional basketball league, for the Washington Mystics. He also spent time as an assistant coach at the University of Maryland.
In 2010, he briefly joined the St. Bonaventure Bonnies as an assistant coach. However, he resigned after six weeks due to family reasons.
